Patrick Leahey of Vermont is retiring

Source-https://www.rollcall.com/2021/11/15/leahy-longest-serving-sitting-senator-to-retire/

snip--"Leahy, longest-serving sitting senator, to retire
Leahy, 81, would leave Washington after 2022 with the third-longest tenure in Senate history."
snip--"Leahy is the first Senate Democrat to announce his retirement, and his departure will mark a changing of the guard in the Democratic caucus. Leahy’s the most senior senator in the chamber and serves as president pro tempore, and is chairman of the powerful Appropriations Committee."
snip--"Leahy’s retirement announcement means that both he and Appropriations ranking member Richard C. Shelby, R-Ala., will leave Congress at the same time, ushering in the first time the panel will likely be led by women."

His term ends on Jan. 3, 2023 when hopefully another Democrat from Vermont will be sworn in.

But since we're on that, long ago during the Shrub-Cheney regime, I heard Tweety say that in Cheney's neck of the woods he and everybody else pronounced "Cheney" not as "chay-nee," but as "CHEENEE," which I there and then adopted in all my posts mentioning him.

For our Democrats, I use the accepted pronunciation, usually as relayed by the media yakkers. In this case, it's always been LAY-hee for me.
