(6,569 posts)make him sign an agreement to be quarantined, and then send a government plane to pick him up. Why can't he get home, they won't let him on a public plane?
I agree that payback is a beach, but he's a citizen and we could use some good PR here. Let's retrieve him and treat him. We lose nothing by doing that except the fuel costs, etc. Why haven't the Repubs picked him up?

(4,999 posts)That's the whole point of quarantine -- to keep others safe until the patient is no longer a threat to transmission.
You quarantine until you test negative.
Then you get to be on a plane with the flight crew and other passengers.
EndlessWire
(6,569 posts)could handle it. I think we should rescue this guy and push the PR to the limit.

(13,921 posts)Your proposal is that we risk military personnel, and burn a whole bunch of jet fuel.
To bring a dangerous loon home a couple weeks quicker than hed be home anyway.
In order to try and do PR to bunch of people who dont even believe covid exists?
All you accomplish is them saying "see, its not even really dangerous, we were right" and emboldening them to attack another School board or some other such nonsense. And then the next day to have a "rolling Coal" event because you also just proved to them you dont actually believe in climate change, if your willing to send a jet to pick up a nobody for a couple week convenience run.

(36,137 posts)official & unofficial activities in El Salvador, then has all parties with whom he had contact sign his report to confirm its veracity, then send it by courier. Upon receipt and perusal, Repubs can then fly him back, charge expenses to the appropriate accounts, and he must quarantine.
I hope that while he's doing all that in order to get back, he catches hell from Salvadorians.

(346 posts)There is no way our taxpayer dollars should be wasted on this piece of crap by chartering a plane for him. He chose not to be vaccinated, he uses his position of power to push anti-vax nonsense, he gave legitimacy to the corrupt leaders of Cambodia by endorsing a crooked election, he passes himself off as a United States Senator when he is just a piss ant Washington state Senator, he was in El Salvador trying to cook up business lobbying for right wingers from there and is just a general asshole.
I know Dougie. He's represented me for too many years. Basically fuck him and I hope he croaks.

(23,337 posts)And, how would this POS give us good PR here? What the? Let him stay there and deal with the consequences of his shitty actions. Antivaxxers deserve no treatment on the public dime. Zero.

(346 posts)We have a pretty fair bipartisan commission drawing voting districts. Unfortunately the give and take of the process means each side has to allow the other side some "wins" with districts giving them an advantage. The 42nd, where I live and which Dougie represents, was drawn to give the Rs a slight advantage. Now we have managed to take back both of the Washington state House seats, flipping them to Democratic representatives. Dougie, however, serves a 4 year term which always comes due on the off years (2022, 2018, etc.) so he benefits from the lack of Democrats turning out in off years.
An added insult is that about 40% of Dougie's district is the very liberal college town of Bellingham. Our precinct went 92% for Biden. The rest of his district is in the rural area of the county including the Dutch descendent farming town of Lynden famous for its ban on dancing in taverns. Pop quiz: What's the COVID rate in the Lynden school district compared to Bellingham? Try 5 times higher in Lynden.
Short answer as to how he got elected? Too many stupid people voting.
oldtime dfl_er
(6,931 posts)That's rich. Washington is a solidly blue state, with two female Democratic senators. There are pockets of conservatism and even fringe right, but the majority of the state is blue.

(185 posts)In an email sent to his GOP colleagues in the Seattle House and Senate on Thursday, Ericksen said he had a doctor who was willing to administer monoclonal antibodies but said the treatment was not available in the country, the Seattle Times reported.
"I took a trip to El Salvador and tested positive for COVID shortly after I arrived," he wrote, according to a copy of the email obtained by the Seattle Times. "I cannot get back home, and it's to the point that I feel it would be beneficial for me to receive an iv of monoclonal antibodies (Regeneron). I have a doctor here who can administer the iv, but the product is not available here."
...
"Do any of you have any ideas on how I could get the monoclonal antibodies sent to me here," Ericksen asked in his Thursday email, according to the Seattle Times. "Ideally, I would like to get it on a flight tonight so it would be here by tomorrow."
One GOP senator told the Seattle Times that lawmakers were "looking into it."
