GOP opposition to vaccine mandates extends far beyond Covid-19

"WASHINGTON — Right-wing politicians’ resistance to vaccine mandates is extending far beyond Covid-19 immunizations, a startling new development that carries vast implications for the future of public health.

In Idaho, a lawmaker introduced a bill that would define vaccine mandates — of any kind — as a form of assault. In Florida, a prominent state senator has called for a review of all vaccine requirements, including those for immunizations that have enjoyed wide public acceptance for decades, like polio and the measles, mumps, and rubella shot. And in Montana, the Republican governor recently signed into law a new bill that forbids businesses, including hospitals, from enforcing any vaccination requirements as a condition of employment.

The bills represent the latest wave of resistance to the Biden administration’s push to impose Covid-19 vaccine mandates for nearly all Americans. But the new, across-the-board revolt against vaccine requirements of any kind, experts told STAT, could begin to reverse a century of progress against diseases that, thanks to vaccines, are afterthoughts to most Americans."

10. Already has, and yes. How about a plot against universal manditory education

as well? That'd be a crime against humanity, though not quite as basic as killing people.

Thinking of widespread refusal of childhood vaccinations, Fauci's statement that that couldn't be allowed, and school insistence on vaccination brought me to thinking about that. Many anti-tax/anti-government RWers, including fascistic types and especially greedy wealthy and fundamentalist religionists, want to eliminate universal education and mandatory funding.

Anti-vaccination "ideology" could be used to power further movement away from public schools to publicly funded private and home schooling, and eliminating or lowering education requirements. Another pandemic frightening parents into keeping children home could also be developed to facilitate that goal.

...and they realized that long-time mandates undermine their anti-COVID vaccine schtick -- so they're tossing them on the bonfire too.

They should wear the brown shirts. They've earned them.

Seriously, as in find another way to discuss it to have any chance of getting a message through.

As for widespread opposition to vaccination, one really scary disease, more lethal than this one and killing children, should turn most anti-vaxxers to vax-demanders. But perhaps not before proudly devout and/or patriotic disease-spreaders caused spread pandemic coast to coast. Likely would depend on whether they had time to see what was happening in other nations and be scared.

I don't for-see this happening because WE would be for it.

Whatever "logic" people want to assign to their lunacy, they will be 100% in opposition to anything that we advocate for - which is how all of this got started.

12. That's why it'd have to be really scary, to break through100% opposition.

But yes. And that for-sure opposition is also why the next child-killer could kill a lot of children before they realized it wasn't fake news.
