(9,036 posts)We have been to Target, Walmart, an Academy Sports, and a couple of grocery stores over the last week, and the shelves are pretty full. A couple were a little light on goods (not the grocery stores), but no "empty shelves". I sorta get the feeling that high gas prices and tight supply chains are the work of devious GOP politicians or businesspeople. Can't seem to shake it.

(82,849 posts)Vendors have gotten accustomed to an uninterrupted supply chain over the last few decades, and they don't want to incur the expense of storing stock in a warehouse if there's a problem with their supply chain. Vendors have also grown accustomed to getting their goods from just one shipper, and if that shipper gets delayed or can't find enough drivers to deliver the goods, the vendor is out of luck as well.
The analyst said that it may be time for vendors to maintain a small stockpile of goods in case of delays, and to have more than one shipper bringing them goods. Radical ideas!

(32,770 posts)Why are the containers coming here from China (or wherever) full of goods, and they're not going back to China? They're stuck here at our docks and storage. Don't we make anything that China wants to buy? Don't we have a way to return those empty containers so we'll get MORE Chinese-made goods?
It's logistics for sure. But it's also manufacturing and marketing. We make things that China wants and needs, don't we? They've got American money to spend on stuff we make, so why aren't we making the stuff and shipping to them?
Fun fact: this dilemma cannot be blamed on President Biden.

(32,770 posts)Nobody mentions that Chump's horrible trade sanctions that targeted China had anything to do with this.
I wonder why?
