We don't have a democracy. We haven't for awhile. What we have is the illusion of one. An old wild west movie set. Looks great from the street but there is nothing behind the facade. We absolutely have good people trying to make things better, in Congress and the WH and around the country but not enough people care. They just don't.
Misogyny...racism...bigotry...it has been woven into the fabric of this nation from the moment the first settlers murdered Native Americans to take their land and food to this very day of systemic racism and rich white kids walking free after committing rape and murder.
Lobbyists, corporations and power mad fascists are stripping our carcass clean.
I do still hold out some hope, I do. Its fading though and I'm saddest for my young niece and nephews, babies, that may very likely will grow up in a nation driven only by its racism, bigotry, hate and impotent rage.

(20,878 posts)I have a niece that is 35 years old. She had her third child not long ago and has now managed to sell her pricey home and I suppose buying another one. She does not work, never has. Her husband seems to have a good job but he only has a high school diploma.
What few cards I receive from her are illiterate and she is "home schooling" the kids. What a joke that is.
I feel sorry not for her, as she went through a fully-funded college education and also has a teaching credential. She had a job for one quarter and was laid off and has never worked again.
The house she was living in was sold with a HUGE American flag covering half of the front of the house for advertisement. I guess they are tRumpers to the end. What a disgusting way to raise three kids, under the guise of racism obviously if they believe the tRump world they are living in. And I must not forget that they are these born again whatever you care to call them, using religion as a disguise.
I want nothing to do with these greedy, racist people.
How in the hell did we get here? That's what I'd like to know.
tRump did not start this, he just endorsed the behavior so those that follow this misguided way of thinking as an excuse for their disgraceful way of living IMO.
is all I can say right now other than when will the next little boo-boo pop out?

(20,878 posts)It is difficult to know but her entire world is validated by a "link".
If you don't have a "link" to explain everything to her, she is not interested because that requires one to think for themselves otherwise which does not seem to be at all possible.
Sad situation for the kids; to hell with herself!
I can no longer afford to send little gifts and cards to her. I hear nothing anymore, not even a "hello, are you still alive?'. Selfishness is a sin I've always believed and all she wants is more more more ad infinitum.

That is my fear as well. Add in my fear that my nieces and nephews will grow up and live in an authoritarian oligarchy, and not experience the demoocratic republic I grew up in - at least until 2016.

(1,773 posts)And when unctuous, murdering little Nazi larvae are able to goose step out of our courtrooms free to murder again you know you're living inside a rancid shit bucket masquerading as just, equality-based nation.
This country is a joke, and ultimately not even one with a funny punchline.

The day big Tony Scalia the republican radical right wing activist SC Justice stole the election, and secured a job for his son in the illegitimate Bush regime.
