They wont see the hypocrisy of this. They defend their actions in spite of reason and facts. And THAT is precisely why they are so dangerous.

(5,727 posts)It's a double standard, yes--but to them that's a feature, not a bug. Rightwankers are phonies about everything; any expression of concern is feigned "weakness" to get others to lower their guard.
I finally realized this when I thought about a (former) supervisor at work, who lies constantly and without cause, even about the pettiest inconsequential detail. Lying is his go-to response to everything. Even after being told nobody was falling for it, he keeps at it; he doesn't have a Plan B. He lies even to himself, convinced that he's some master deceiver who triumphantly bamboozles anyone who enters his realmfaaaaaart.
People with a sense of honesty and justice have to struggle to understand that sort of twisted belief because it is so alien.

(5,125 posts)Christians who ACTUALLY READ the Bible would not expect Jesus to act like your co-worker.
The ONLY people who really pissed Jesus off enough to cause a real scene were the money changers and animal sellers set up in the Temple fleecing people by making money off the currency differences and selling them animals for sacrifice.
The "family business" Jesus was born into was carpentry. Which at that time meant you were also a logger and no 18-wheelers to haul your product. So he was strong.
Matthew 21:12-13
Jesus Throws Out the Moneychangers
12 Jesus went into the temple courtyard and threw out everyone who was buying and selling there. He overturned the moneychangers tables and the chairs of those who sold pigeons.
13 He told them, Scripture says, My house will be called a house of prayer, but youre turning it into a gathering place for thieves!

(1,670 posts)You can ask any person who proudly tells you they're "Christian" and they'll agree that the people you are describing are not real "Christians." The media has accepted this hard right version of what is "Christian." They own the brand.
The Black Church is a very strong influence in most black communities, but they seem to identify primarily as black churches. They teach Christianity, and are that classical Christian you're discussing. Most of the mainstream Protestant denominations seem to be disappearing, to be replaced with syncretic white nationalist churches. These churches use the words of Christianity but not the meanings. It's easy to see why people are confused.

(5,125 posts)IT MAY LOOK LIKE THEY DO because they say it a lot.
I can say, "I'm a size 3." Doesn't make it so.
Media lies do not make facts irrelevant to those living with the facts.
I "described" the actions of Jesus according to the Bible in regards to the thieving money changers and animal sellers in the Temple.
He IS the Christ and it is His BRAND.
People who follow HIS way are told not to lie. So if your co-worker is a pathological liar he is incapable of actually following the path of a true Christian.
The PROBLEM IS just like there are "good police officers" out there who actually feel duty bound to "protect and serve" even in the Fifth Precinct in Minneapolis where Derek Chauvin got his badge.....
There are also "good Christian Evangelicals" trying to follow the example of Christ and behave themselves in this world and keep their nose out of other people's business. They donate their time and money to the poor and downtrodden and go on missions in foreign lands.
You don't have to be black to be a good Christian, but as a Christian/DEM I have gotten a lot of good fellowship and leadership from many in that group. In fact, I left my favorite Methodist Church when the black minister transferred to another state and they replaced him with a white minister who was formerly a Baptist. The vibe did really change.
I am just saying that to smear everyone in a group because of those who co-opt it for their own uses is like saying EVERY CITY COUNCIL IS CORRUPT without exception. Sure, many are. But many aren't as well.

(1,670 posts)I see plenty of Dems who say, "that's not really Christian," but what I don't see is that story being told to the general populace. I think there's a fear of publicly criticizing portions of the "flock." (Sidebar, aren't they also the folks who say everyone else are sheep?)
Since I don't believe in the Trinity, I don't claim to be a Christian. It's a technical detail, but important. On the other hand I watch people who are Christians stand by in silence while people they say are not behaving in a Christian manner run roughshod over everyone. I don't blame you for being upset by what I'm saying, watching something you believe in being perverted should be upsetting. What I don't understand is why people get mad at me when I point out that it's supposedly other Christians who are perverting it.

(5,125 posts)DEMs criticize people for being "sheeple" and that means to follow without understanding.
Even so, if a wolf kills an honest sheep who believes in Christ or an idiot sheeple following a false prophet to wear that person's presence, it's still an offense in all ways and hardly the fault of the dead sheep/sheeple.
I am not mad at you BTW.
I am upset by the perversion itself and hope to reach people of good intent and bring a little good news.
Real Christians follow the example of Christ and heed his words to the best of their ability. No one is perfect.
I WAS a Catholic. I believe in the Trinity, but I don't think that is a real requirement of Christians in general. I left the Catholic Church when Benedict was Pope and started trying to undo Vatican II and all the Ecumenical Peace accords forged between various faiths. That and gay bashing turned me away.
At one time Catholics believed they were the ONLY true church tracing back to Peter, the rock, and that all other "Christian Types" were going to Hell. Back in the '50's Catholics could not marry cross faith without being ex-communicated.
Vatican II made many progressive changes to the Catholic Church and in the '70's there was a large reach out among the various religions to do as Jesus had said and try to find common ground and simply get together and work on the things we CAN agree matter and table the rest.
So the Ecumenical Movement allowed the Christian faith, including Catholics to stand united and work together on social justice issues like hunger and homelessness without worrying about incidentals like Trinity or No Trinity. It was a good thing.

(5,125 posts)AND in their day to day life as far as going to church and talking the talk, maybe they ARE more Christian than me (in a religious sense) but as a fellow Christian, I call them out as being fake when they support hate groups and/or misguided by lies being fed to them by the REICH.
AS a DEM if I saw a DEM supporting cutting taxes on the rich and funding for the poor, I would have to tell them they are going against the party platform.
When I went to Sunday School, we were taught God IS Love. AGAPE is the unconditional love of God. And the reason we needed to be out of the Garden of Eden is that we had learned to be deceitful and disobedient. That which is NOT Love is NOT compatible with God, even in the Old Testament.
These Christians are getting fleeced to support a Reich Wing martyr that went to a protest that started peaceful until after the police had been using tear gas and rubber bullets on the crowd for an hour.
Even then, it wasn't necessarily the protesters causing the damage. Same thing in Minneapolis. Some of it was the protestors, but the worst was linked back to an out-of-towners and specifically it was a Proud Boi who launched a Molotov cocktail into the 5th Precinct.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenosha_unrest
Kenosha County Sheriff David Beth asserted that most of the damage was from individuals with no intent to protest and who were not from Kenosha County.

(5,125 posts)However, I DO believe that the "Real Christians" who follow the example of Christ should rise up and stand up for "THE BRAND" and demand that these fakes quit calling themselves Christians if they are acting like arrogant Pharisees and greedy Money Changers.
I want the WOLVES to be ousted and the money changers too.
They have made nearly everyone hate the idea of Christianity. I hate the KKK version too.
But I have always been more of a New Testament than Old Testament believer anyway. Simpler.
"Love one another as I have loved you." Jesus got up on the cross to be the last sacrifice so we could accept forgiveness without having to buy any lambs or pigeons to do so.
Jesus wanted US to treat each other with love and respect and be honest with each other.
NONE of that is in the Brand the Reich Wing sells.
So it's as fake as a "Gucci" bag from the back of someone's pick up truck.
