I predict the chances of Justice Clarence Thomas resigning in the next year are high

Given what we currently know, that his wife, Ginni, gave public support to the Jan 6th insurrection, I've been wondering what we don't know. As the investigation moves closer to the nexus of insurrection, it may get too "hot" for the Thomases.

https://www.yahoo.com/now/clarence-thomas-wife-supported-rioters-231103492.html

"According to Independent, Mrs. Thomas is allegedly a member of a network of conservative activists called Groundswell. The group has close ties to Trump and his senior officials, according to the report. Thomas reportedly helped craft lists of “disloyal” government officials, and detailed memos are said to have been written by Groundswell over the past year-and-a-half."

Unless he’s indicted I don’t see him leaving unless it’s in a box.

I’m sure he’s quite happy being able to advance the agenda of the autocrats.

Antonin Scalia died at 79, but Thomas has the added stresser of being a Black man in the United States. Thomas may get retired by the actuarial tables in the next couple of years.

Also, neither is capable of shame.

So, I will be shocked if he does resign.

ideology is close to reforming our nation's judicial philosphy, including reinterpreting over 200 years of liberal constitutional law, to reflect his beliefs? He's become voluable and actively involved during argument now, you know, after decades of sitting silent. He even smiles.

We can't know of course, but if I were to guess it would be more on the order that he's as eager to overthrow the other two branches of government as his wife. He's no kid and it'd be terrible to get too old with all this great work to do. Guessing scandalous accusations wouldn't move him, only the prospect of inevitable removal and worse.

I think he did give an interview a few years ago about retirement. I could only see a few possibilities that would support his resignation. First, illness. Nothing focuses the mind on the important aspect of life like limited time. Second, the desire to spend his time on something more important to him, like his brand of politics. I doubt sufficient political uproar could prompt a SCOTUS sitting Justice to resign. So I'm just not sharing any optimism on this point.

but if he and the Mrs. contributed to 1/6, either financially or through “Connections,” they need to be on trial, and judged with greater responsibility than just “regular” citizens.

Ginny Thomas' associations and work with far right causes has been known for years - and hasn't made a particle of difference. Not a single thing has changed - or is likely to.

Even if she had been guilty of twice the offenses she is being accused of, Thomas wouldn’t be ashamed of his wife. He would be proud of her.
