Beto will be Governor of Texas by next year this time. That is all.
Let the Holiday Season begin

(9,998 posts)The Texas I know of, is where Democratic candidates' campaigns go to die.
But, I will be watching from CA, and hoping by some miracle, that you're right.

(9,998 posts)She was Governor for a single term, and that was 26 Years ago. The repubs have a stranglehold on TX these days, and they're putting in place voting laws that are meant to disenfranchise Democrats.
And while Beto is certainly a great candidate, Ann Richards was one of a kind. She was like a Bill Clinton or Barack Obama. The type of person who comes along once in a lifetime.

I don't claim to know what his chances are, but I do believe that IF anyone can win as a Democrat in Texas, it's Beto O'Rourke. 👍

hopefully Beto will be Governor-elect.
From what Ive seen of him early he is more disciplined than in 2018 or especially 2020. He started off his first weekend by meeting with concerned school parents in the Valley. That tells me his team knows A) the border area needs shoring up - badly and 2) they (correctly) think the Republicans are going to try and throw public schools into the political ring in 22. And hes hitting Abbott on his more obvious vulnerabilities.
I still think a lot of people are missing the big picture though. Democrats across the state desperately wanted him to run to bring out the base, whether he wins or loses he is going to make a difference in the down-ticket races. His failed 2018 Senate run brought the party new life, won us countless lower races and reversed decades of Democratic declines in the state. A high Democratic turnout in what is going to be a headwind year will be critical in a lot of races.
