SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) The former prosecutor charged with misconduct for her handling of the Ahmaud Arbery case was booked at a Georgia jail on Wednesday and released.
Former Brunswick Judicial Circuit District Attorney Jackie Johnson turned herself in Wednesday morning at the Glynn County jail, county Undersheriff Ron Corbett said. Jail records show she was released on her own recognizance, meaning she did not have to pay a cash bond.
A grand jury indicted Johnson, 49, last week on a felony charge of violating her oath of office and a misdemeanor count of obstructing police. Johnson was the areas top prosecutor when three white men chased and fatally shot Arbery last year. The indictment alleges she used her position to discourage police from making arrests in the 25-year-old Black mans killing.
Johnson did not immediately return a phone message Wednesday. Officials at the jail and the Glynn County Superior Court clerks office said their records did not list an attorney for her.

And the right thinks Black Lives Matter is a bunch of BS. This is yet another example of the inequity that still exists.

Speaking of getting away with murder, Rittenhouse is riding high right now, wonder what else he will do.

(778 posts)He is vacationing in Florida and the governor has welcomed him with open arms. Not to mention he was at Mar-A-Lago to meet with his favorite President. Marjorie Taylor Greene has nominated him for a prestigious award and Matt Gaetz is hoping to NAB him as an aid.
He belongs in prison with these other three Killers and Jackie belongs right beside them. If I remember correctly, their neighboring prosecuting attorney deserves a second look, too. The good old boy system.

(47,560 posts)I doubt this is his first time terrorizing black people, just the first time he got caught. He was so casual and nonchalant with authorities, as if it was no big deal. He's crossed the line before without repercussions and that just emboldened him.

I lived in Beaufort SC for years and years, so I have a feel for how things are done in the south, and I knew it took forever to bring these fkrs to justice, but had NO IDEA something was actually going to happen to this prosecutor, any prosecutor, ever

(13,526 posts)From OP link:
Georgia Attorney General Chris Carrs office is prosecuting Johnson. Carr sought the misconduct investigation last year, saying the first outside prosecutor he appointed to handle the case had been recommended by Johnson, who never disclosed that she had already asked that prosecutor to advise police in the immediate aftermath of Arberys killing.
That outside prosecutor, Waycross Judicial Circuit District Attorney George Barnhill, later recused himself but not before sending a letter to Glynn police advising that he believed the shooting of Arbery was justified.

But I forgot the circumstances. So very glad to hear this. She is basically an accessory to the murder in my mind, helping to cover it up. Lock her up!

(4,552 posts)We are taking large steps to turn this around. Thousands were lynched in the south and no one was ever convicted!
This is a big step.
Now we need people to vote and vote in honor of Ahmaud and all who went before. There is nothing more important than getting out the vote. Convert the rage and hope into votes.
Want to scare a racist. Tell him he is losing the demographics race!
