5-year-old fatally shot as teens made social media video

A five-year-old boy is dead and a teen in custody after what police are calling an accidental shooting in Brooklyn Park [Minnesota, just outside Minneapolis].

Deputy Chief Mark Bruley said in a news release that it happened inside a home on the 8000 block of Florida Ave. shortly after 10:15 p.m. Thursday. Officers were called to the home and found the child had been shot in the head. Despite lifesaving measures the boy did not survive.

Preliminary investigation indicates a 13-year-old was handling a gun while he and some other juveniles were trying to make a social media video when he somehow pulled the trigger, striking the young victim. It appears at this point that the fatal shooting was accidental.

Investigators recovered a weapon at the scene. The 13-year-old was taken into custody and is being held at the Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Center while the investigation into what happened continues.

The kids were screwing around and the shooter didn't know what he was doing.

I can't accidentally pull the trigger on my S&W .40 cal. pistol. It takes 9 pounds of pressure.
