Open letter to ABC, CBS, NBC employees

Last edited Sun Nov 28, 2021, 02:12 PM - Edit history (1)

While chasing ratings in the 2016 election you unwittingly helped Rs elect their guy. I'm sure you are aware
that today a number of lifetime loyal Rs (Bill Kristol, Michael Steele, Lincoln Project, etc) have been saying
the R party has to die or be stripped from power for our Democracy to survive. Are you listening to them and
using your critical thinking skills?

The writing on the walls is becoming clearer everyday, Rs attempted to overthrow our Government to keep their
guy in power and voted against even investigating Jan 6th. Is this the type of politicians you can honestly say
you're proud of? The ones who call you fake news?

IMHO, Rs have been slowly turning into an authoritarian Fascist group for some time now and will continue to do
so until they achieve that goal. And if they do, will they allow you to say and write what you believe, or will they
give you only the proper propaganda to broadcast and kill those among you who refuse to comply?

If Rs regain control of one house in the midterms, we'll see BBB diminished to where it'll never achieve it's goal
of putting America back as having one of the highest standards of living in this world.

Not saying you need to quit your both sides-ism to look unbiased but you could give The Lincoln Project a reduced
advertising rate, you can remind people Dec 13th that the (planned) book burning in Fredericksburg VA remind you
of Nazi Germany. Lots of little things you could do.

So you want to save Democracy for your grandchildren, or you want Rs back in charge to get another big
tax cut? Who said the love of money is the root of all EVIL?

Anyone have something to add?

In my opinion these could be reworded so the message doesn't come across as a ranting screed.

Maintaining a more level tone will get your message across better... in my opinion. I could be wrong.

I was just trying to help you get better responses.
I've written many letters to editors, politicians, policy makers, etc.
Many of my first drafts had the same tone as yours, but I took the time to moderate the tone for effect.

Write whatever you want. I'm eager to hear what kind of response you get.
Offered without malice, I assure you. I'm wishing for the best for you.

Too long we Dems have been a slave to saying things in a 'reasonable' way.

FUCK THAT.

The Q's have owned us for a generation because of this approach.

It is past time to try and please everyone. In the face of Trumpism and QANON We look weak, not reasonable.

No. I WANT Katy's Whiteboard.
I want The Squad to keep using Shock and Awe tactics.
I want Nancy to continue to tear up documents on Prime Time TV.
I want DR. Fauci 's bad ass Brooklyn attitude.
I want Bernie to continue to wear mittens. (Seriously to continue to shame the 1%.)
I want President Biden to continue to speak Truth to Rethuglican Power.
I want TLP and MeidasTouch to continue their Great Work.
I want all the Dems on Twitter to continue to use creativity to push strong memes and subvert the Q's message. (#LetsGoBrandon is a great example.)
I want TikTok to continue to give a platform for the artistic ones to make fun of Power in an unshackled way.

Sensationalism and stirring shit up means ratings. If they stoke the outrage (you could also use the word “stroke” instead of “stoke” in this context), they can get more eyeballs on their work, and lure more advertising dollars. That’s all they really care about.

Unfortunately.

This should be sent to every newsroom in the country to remind them of their ethics when they start to say, but both sides…

And all the anti-Biden and horse race headline writers at the NYT.

The desire for profit outweighs the common good. The MSM desire for profits will override it’s desire to survive. Knowing the possible outcomes will not change their behavior - because the corporations figure that they will find a way to be useful idiots to whomever is in charge. And like what happened in Germany - by the time they figure out what is happening, it will be too late. So, it then becomes a matter of falling in line.

Most jobs in movies and television are union jobs. I am a member of some of them.

Most of the people in positions of influence and authority still remember being exploited to help elect Trump with 24/7 coverage. Simply put, we’re pissed.

If Trump wants his face plastered on news channels (for free) he’s gonna have to buy his own channel.

And then, we go after the sponsors who would advertise on a show to destroy the United States. Fool me once…

"Freedom of the press is guaranteed only to those who own one." — A. J. Liebling

I've been a journalist, and I can tell you that a reporter is not allowed to write (or, in this case, broadcast) whatever they want. The owner of their newspaper/TV station tells them what they can and cannot say. I've had stories killed because they reflected ever-so-slilghtly negatively on an institution or person that the ME or owner didn't want besmeared.

An example I've given here a couple of times is Rachel Maddow and the Fukushima nuclear disaster. When the disaster first occurred, TRMS covered it daily and in depth. As I recall, it was usually the lead story. Then one day — nothing. And the show never covered it again. Did the fact that NBC was owned by GE, the company that made the Fukushima reactors, have anything to do with this? I can't prove it, of course, but it is an interesting coincidence.

So don't blame the messengers. Blame our corporatocracy, in which six monstrous (in both senses of the word) corporations control 90% of all media outlets in this country.
