A network that wasn't controlled by corporations and its sole purpose was to bring down the Republicans... I feel this is the only reason that Trump was elected in the first place is because of Fox News and the whole reason we're in the situation we are today

(448 posts)Thank you! I was worried that our progressive voices had been silenced of late. Our ideas need to be heard by more voters

(12,001 posts)The argument for the over the air broadcasts was that the government assigned a very limited number of specific frequencies to the individual stations which were issued licenses. In that way it was determined that therefore the public "owned the airwaves"
Cable and Satellite networks don't have any of those constraints, and any government interference with their content would surely be overturned under First Amendment arguments. The same logic would also hold true for print and internet content producers.
Likewise, the former Fairness Doctorine applied to AM/FM broadcasts over the airwaves, but wouldn't for Satellite radio. .

(65,180 posts)MSNBC is better than most but still constrained by big corporations. I havent watched them much lately. Any credit given to the President for low unemployment, strong job growth, lower poverty and bankruptcies, and yes the stock market? Or is it all inflation talk?

Sometimes there are not two legitimate sides to a discussion and those should be weeded out.
