Vegan who refused COVID vaccine in stand against animal testing died of virus after begging for jab

A vegan who refused a COVID jab in a stand against animal testing has died from the virus.

Glynn Steel, 54, died on 16 November after a two-week battle in intensive care, during which he is said to have begged nurses for a vaccination.

According to his wife Emma, his last words were: "I have never felt so ill, I wish I'd had the vaccine."

She is now calling on people to take up the vaccine, saying she has been left facing "an empty future alone".

News of his death comes as Prime Minister Boris Johnson urged people to get jabbed so the country is in a strong position for Christmas amid growing fears over the new Omicron variant.

I was telling my non political friend about these infuriating stories just today. BTW, my friend is vaccinated and got the booster. It's common sense.

understand these people who think it’s a cure. It’s like getting the flu shot or any other vaccine. You get it to prevent the disease or at least lessen the effects of the disease if you do end up getting it.

I don’t care the made up bullshit reason. Get the vaccine, protect yourself and others. A fucking vegan, give me a break.

the difference between a vaccine and a treatment med. Or the reality of how serious the illness is. Too many people think of it as just a bad case of the flu.

This sounds like a case of ignorance more than of defiance or politics.

Perhaps the saddest thing about this is the sheer and utter futility of that woman's choice to remain unvaxxed because of animal testing.

All the drugs on the market,* whether prescription or otherwise, as well as countless numbers of medical and surgical procedures and devices, have been developed using animal testing.

*In the U.S., at least; I can't vouch for the rest of the world.

The only way to completely avoid using any medical treatment or pharmaceutical product that has ever been tested on animals is to completely avoid all science-based medical treatment and never take medication of any kind (except things like folk medicine, herbal remedies, etc.).

Even if I was capable of living on a vegan diet (which I'm not, for various highly personal reasons), I would never choose to live my life without modern, science-based medical care. Unless one is willing to do that (which he obviously wasn't, since he went to a hospital once he got sick), declining one specific vaccine is a completely pointless exercise.

Having strong principles and sticking to them is admirable in theory, but this story shows how that can be carried to an absurd extreme.

This story bothers me for a lot of reasons

But once in the hospital all the treatments provided were animal tested, did the person refuse them too?

And this person was going to retire and spend time taking care of animals , guess not
