Victorian Premier pays tribute to nurse who died after contracting COVID-19By Sumeyya Ilanbey
Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has thanked Gillian Jill Dempsey, the Victorian nurse who died after contracting COVID-19, for her commitment to her profession and her dedication to providing patients with the best care.
Ms Dempsey was an emergency department nurse at the Angliss Hospital in Upper Ferntree Gully (east of Melbournes CBD), and has been remembered as an incredibly caring wife and mother. She is survived by her husband Michael and their three children.
She is believed to be the first Australian healthcare worker to have died from COVID-19.
To the Dempsey family, can I, on behalf of all Victorians, say how sorry we are to hear someone who committed her entire working her life to caring for others has lost her life, Mr Andrews said earlier this morning.
She was double-vaxxed, wearing PPE, she was doing all the right things, and shes contracted the virus, and as weve said so many times, this can be deadly We honour the contributions shes made to our state and we wish [the family] all the very best of what will be an incredibly difficult time.

(17,164 posts)to die somewhat surprised me, but OTOH I can't recall any other stories of health workers who've succumbed to Covid. What I do know is that in my interractions with clinics, hospital etc. all staff and procedures are surrounded by a super-abundance of caution and preventative measures.
As I read the stories of anti-vaxxers dropping off the twig, I wonder; if this valuable worker who observed all safety procedures can die, then what hope do the idiots have.

(17,164 posts)Haven't seen you for a while. Actually, since the last time I banned you as a MIRT member. I hope you get the chance to read this reply before you are nuked.
I've missed you - the ubiqitous, permanent, daily troll.

(205,409 posts)And early morning, late nights (U.S. Eastern Time for me) is prime time for her, though I don't think she sleeps. We get several a day, but not all of them activate. I think she forgets.
