(8,330 posts)Cant win the primary, could easily win the general election though.

(54,387 posts)Markey was just re-elected. His chances of dislodging Warren are negligible, and former governors of Massachusetts have a poor record when seeking the presidency. Dukakis, Romney, Weld, none got close enough to be considered to have a serious chance of being inaugurated.

(38,559 posts)Lt. Governor Polito will have to come out publicly as to whether she's a Baker republican (aka a "never-Trumper" or a supporter of TFG. If she expresses support for TFG, I think she is completely sunk. I think she's well aware of this.
The question becomes who the Democrats would nominate. I THINK Maura Healy has already said she likes being AG (she's been quite good) and has no interest in running for Governor in the next election. She'd be a great choice, but if she's out I don't know where the Democrats would turn. (Please note, I'm not saying that there aren't any other options, I'm saying that *I* can't think of any... and would love to hear suggestions.)

(1,123 posts)Joe Kennedy and Seth Moulton. But if Maura Healy does run, I think she's a lock to win it.

(38,559 posts)Thank you.
Polito strikes me as someone who will run for anything until she wins something... which is what I think she did to become Lt. Governor. If she gets the GOP nomination, and I think she will, her choice in running-mate will decide her fate. I believe MA is as anti-TFG as they were anti-Nixon in '72 (smartest state in the Union back then).
Healy would win hands-down. But I have to admit that I like her just where she is. When Coakley ran, I liked her VERY much, but I also thought she was highly effective as AG and wanted her to stay there. (I also thought Capuano would have had tremendous support where Coakley didn't have it.)

Look for that quack that worked w/ Cyber Ninjas on the AZ fraudit to run--Dr. Shiva Ayyadurai . He won't get anywhere, but he will run. He ran in the GOP primary for Markey's Senate seat and lost that primary.

(63,221 posts)Impossible. There are a few contenders I can think of, but I think it's going to be another horse race.
Even though Baker was a "republican", I actually kind of liked him. He was not someone i would pick given a choice, but i thought he did a decent job and basically governed as a moderate Democrat. He was definitely not a nut case.

(38,559 posts)Apparently there is polling that says (according to sources w/i the RWNJ community) a Republican can't win a primary (even here in MA) w/o being a supporter of TFG.
So it would seem that they are sunk (according to what THEY say the polling is).
I still think it matters who the Democrats nominate. Not when it comes to winning, but when it comes to other considerations. I also think that we need to be careful about losing seats in the House. And Maura Healy suffers from the curse of being MONUMENTALLY good at her job, and therefore too important to move on (my opinion).
Saw a blurb on my news feed this morning that Marty Walsh is considering running. I don't think he should. I absolutely think he would win. However, he's only been in the Cabinet for a few months. I think if he runs he will look like an opportunist. Besides, his background makes him suited to Secretary of Labor.

(63,221 posts)I can understand this. It has been a rough few years. Any normal person would want a reprieve.
