I hope that the families of the students who were shot can

Sue the pants off the killer’s family.

Especially that father who was such a “responsible gun owner” that he bought that gun and apparently left it
where that boy could get his hands on it.

2. For all we know, the father could have bought it FOR his son.

I live in this part of the state. There are guys all over this place who live and breathe for their guns. Hell, a group of them wanted to kill our governor and her family not too long ago.

3. Civil liability for parents of minors is typically quite low

Just did a cursory glance out of curiosity, and it seems Michigan caps at $2,500.

This is why you're not seeing any civil suits directed at Rittenhouse. He was a minor, and the parents' liability is quite low. That's why the civil suits are directed at the city of Kenosha. Michigan seems similar (it differs by state).

However, if the father committed a gun crime, different kettle of fish I'd imagine. But I'm not a lawyer, and as we saw in Wisconsin, who the hell knows what Michigan's gun laws are. Wonder if we're in for another round of, "Wait, that cannot possibly be the law, can it?"

This would be my shocked face.

4. Jesus... Maybe if there was some accountability for parents, we'd see less school shootings

Instead of this whole "But they're victims too!" shtick.

Michigan's legislature is full of GOP gun fetishers. They aren't about to pass any stricter laws.

This is why voting in local elections is even more important than just the presidential elections.

bet money that the law in Wisconsin is allowed to stand as it is and there will be no effort to change it.

Given the legislature is heavily Republican, I cannot imagine they're very motivated about it.

I would advise my child to do the same. I get it - this is horrific. And there is no way to protect a child from these consequences. They will certainly be had - and they should be. There are people that died.

But I'd still tell my child to talk to an attorney.
