I read that authorities are not allowed to question the boy without a parent present.
Police say the 15 year old who killed 3 students and wounded 8 people at Oxford High School used a 9mm Sig Sauer handgun that his father bought on Friday. Truly a Black Friday purchase. The sophomore is not speaking with authorities and his family is hiring an attorney.

(50,949 posts)for your toddlers or lunatic children to play with is a republiQan family value. One that is espoused by some of our own gun humpers here!
God forbid we should require that all those "responsible gun owners" actually take responsibility.

And why was the gun not secured in a locked gun case?

(82,849 posts)Has the kid spent his entire life with his country at war in far-flung countries around the world, carrying out the dictum that might makes right?

I read that one mother said her son and others stayed home because there was fear of trouble

(35,338 posts)Democrats will want to take our guns. They say the same thing every time. I will hear guns don't kill people people do. Thoughts and prayers.

(35,338 posts)had a desire to own an AR there is no reason a civilian should have one. I would like to see them removed from the market and magazines for all guns except a .22 rimfire be limited to 10 rounds. I have a Springfield semi-auto 40 cal. that has a 16 round magazine I only load 10 rounds even when shooting target.

(11,738 posts)I say this as someone who owns firearms. While I am bothered by the rhetoric from other liberals, I have never and would never vote for a Republican "just because" Democrats are less likely to support ownership of firearms. I live in California for goodness sakes, we have restrictions on firearms, accessories, waiting periods for every single purchase and ammunition, restrictions on magazine capacity, and limits on the number of firearms one can purchase during a given time period. I would NEVER move to a state run by Republicans because I enjoy living in a society that values the wellbeing of people and delivers services to the most vulnerable among us more than I need to have a bunch of guns with 30 round magazines and folding stocks etc...
Sorry to say and I mean no offense to you or your relatives, but your D relatives who hold their nose and vote Republican just because of guns, are seriously confused.
We do need a different approach though. We need to push for root cause mitigation and public safety rather than focusing on the inherent evil of guns.
I hate the phrase, "Guns don't kill people. People...." Yes, guns are inanimate objects and require an operator, however they are a preferred tool for killing because of their power and lethality. Guns help people kill people, a lot. We need to work on all solutions to the problem of killing, including taking a look at how easy it is to get access to a gun.

(73,552 posts)State law mandates that because he is a minor, his parents have to give police permission to talk to him. Reportedly, he went silent as soon as the officers caught him in the school, and when contacted, the parents said they would not allow police to interrogate him until he had a lawyer. Though this is frustrating for those who wonder why he did this, the parents do have that right. Plus, he is caught, and being held, and will be convicted based upon the evidence already known ....... the school, for example, has cameras.
It actually may be better, in a strange sense, that "why" he did this is not reported at this time. That reduces the likelihood of aother unstable teen with access to weapons not engage in a copy-cat shooting.

(73,552 posts)Information comes out in splatters, it seems to me. Besides walking my son's dog on our daily adventures, I'm listening to the Trump case in yesterday's circuit court hearing. Tonight, I hope to listen to today's Supreme Court hearing.
Maybe it's just because I'm getting old, but things seem to be moving faster and slower at the same time these days.
I was very impressed seeing Governor Gretchen Whitmer going to the community that suffered this horror yesterday. I think that she is one of the best candidates for future national office. What do you think of her?

(15,943 posts)She is gaining valuable experience running a state government. Plus she is hitting a nerve with the white supremacy party. So, I hope she stays safe from those who's only intention in life is to cause harm.
I wish she was my Governor. I'm stuck with good ol boy Greg Abbott who doesn't give two craps about running our state. I'm hoping we don't freeze again this winter. Powerless in February for 3 days in subfreezing weather. Now I know that is probably not that big a deal to people who live up north, but this was not fun for me. I didn't even want to go outside to enjoy the snow. We did have to venture out to charge our phones in the car. The seat warmer was a nice touch.
Enjoy your walks with the doggy!
