I got my second one yesterday and feeling like crap. Sort of like the flu but minus the nausea . Is this normal?

(15,803 posts)Second shot I was freezing all night long. Only lasted about 24 hours. It was a long day, but fine after that. So worth having that vaccine.
I felt like complete crap for about 24 to 36 hours after the first one. Much milder side effects after the second one.
Having said that, I have spoken with people who experienced the opposite (worse after the second)

(34,136 posts)It lasted for several days. My second one will be in a couple of weeks and I will make them do it in the other arm. The arm I got the first one in is the side I sleep on and it disrupted my sleep for over a week, the arm was so sore.

(2,756 posts)Drop in blood pressure. Liver enzymes spiked. (Retested a month later and back to normal)
Im currently trying to decide whether its safe to get the 2nd shot.
The first shot was very minimal but the second (aside from being tired the next day) included a sore arm for more than a month. Sore might be an understatement - I could barely raise it above my shoulder. Totally cleared after 3 months. I still figured it was worth it just so I would not get those horrible shingles. Ugh. Had two friends get them in the eyes.

(2,278 posts)It knocked me on my butt for 36 hours. Didn't have the energy to get out of bed. Was the worst I had felt in years (worse than the last few cases of strep/flu).
Absolutely nothing with the second shot except a sore arm like a tetanus shot.

(3,411 posts)...but after watching my brother suffer from Shingles a few years ago, I was OK with spending a weekend in my recliner, nodding off on occasion. I had same reaction from both Shingrix shots.

(42,331 posts)Passed after a few days. I've had shingles so was happy to incur the side effects to get immunized. Hope you feel OK soon.

I have to schedule and go get my first shot and I've been dreading it for this very reason. I just don't want to be ill again. The flu shots (and Covid shots) do the same thing to me, I get sick almost every time with a fever for a day or two.
I know the alternative of catching shingles is far worse, but dang, I just dread it.
I suppose I at least know what I'm in for.

(1,425 posts)It felt like the flu, but only lasted about 24 hours. I've had shingles. Even with bad side effects, the vaccine is way better than getting shingles.

(10,136 posts)I had the luxury of being able to spend the day after the 2nd shot in bed with the flu-like symptoms you describe. They were milder the 2nd day, and totally gone by the 3rd. Same thing happened with Mr. Retrograde.

(7,282 posts)I feel like I'm almost unusual in that I never get side effects from any vaccinations I've ever had.
The only side effect I've had experienced was with anti-biotic shot which was sulfa based. I discovered I'm allergic to anything with sulfa.
This also solved the mystery of why I start sneezing and getting congested when I drink red wines. the sulfate levels I guess is the culprit for me.
