After a lackluster general Election Night in November, Democratic leaning candidates roared back Tuesday to flip at least seven local races across Georgia Tuesday, and fended off Republican challengers in Brunswick and Forest Park.
In Warner Robins, voters elected LaRhonda Patrick to be the first woman and first Black mayor to lead the city. Patrick defeated incumbent Mayor Randy Toms two weeks after Toms announced the city owes $800,000 to the IRS because of years of inaccurate filings and ignored warnings.

(82,849 posts)It doesn't fit the favored narrative. Though I have to wonder if Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger is going to complain about rigged elections or Stacey Abrams not conceding in 2018 some more. After all, he's in charge of elections now, and the results still aren't favoring the Republicans. Maybe Republicans don't have the lock they thought they did on voter suppression.

(54,387 posts)Republicans started inserting rightist extremists into local insignificant races, and went upwards from there, all the way go gaining majorities in state legislatures, which can gerrymander states to where a state can have 60% Democratic voters and yet 65% Republicans in their congressional delegation. This is also how we will reverse that situation: local race by local race.
