JEMISON, Ala. (AP) Nearly two dozen FedEx packages have been found dumped in woods along a rural road in an Alabama town about 75 miles from a ravine where hundreds of undelivered FedEx parcels previously were discovered, police said Wednesday.
Police in the town of Jemison said in a statement on social media that about 20 packages destined for locations on nine different roads were discovered.
We are in the process of contacting officials with Fed Ex so that they can investigate this situation and contact their customers, police said.
It wasnt clear how long the items had been on the roadside or whether there was any link to an earlier discovery in Blount County near Hayden, where Sheriff Mark Moon said a FedEx Ground driver dumped packages into a ravine in the woods at least six times. Moon said Tuesday that there are about 450 victims after hundreds of packages were discovered dumped last month.

(24,370 posts)If it is the same guy, and I'll bet a fifty it is, his D.A.C. record is going to show this and no one will want to hire him for years.
If he was overworked and he dumped these because thought no one would find out, he obviously was seriously mistaken.
I would also bet a fifty that he is new to the biz and is a seasonal hire for the contractor.
As others have pointed out in the other threads on this, if it is FedEx Ground, they are all contractor and small fleet owners, so this guy was working for a small business man that had maybe a dozen trucks (perhaps....who knows)and I guarantee you his margins are pretty thin.

Called my boss after I got ashore (long before cell phones), and they found a couple who had recently been hired had dumped them all over the island. I dont get people like that, just dont.

(3,627 posts)FedEx Ground used to be Roadway Package Service, which was started up to be a lower cost competitor to UPS. RPS saved money in one respect by not having union employees. Their drivers all owned their trucks, generally via a mortgage owned by RPS, and they were contractors. They were paid per delivery, not by the hour and without the benefits UPS union drivers, or even FedEx employees, enjoyed.
I know RPS became FedEx Ground but I'm not sure how the driver situation evolved, but I somehow doubt that these drivers with their truck loans were just inducted into the FedEx employee union. That would have required unwinding a hell of a lot of contracts. So this was probably done by someone who was given more work than they could do under penalties for not doing it all. Not an appropriate way to handle the situation of course, but a lot of people probably wouldn't be able to handle it in a better way than this.
