Were Roe to be overturned or severely limited so as to be effectively so . . . . .

. . . . . how do you think our fellow citizens will react? Some possibilities:

Will there be a backlash against Republicans?

Will the right be even more emboldened?

Will women turn things?

Will that moment prove to be a turning point - either right or left?

Will there be a quick eruption but, overall, apathy?

So many other possibilities . . . . . . . .

1. I don't think it will help republicans.

The people that care about abortions are already voting for them. They are much more likely to be one issue voter than the rest.

So the way I see it, it's either a backlash for republicans. We can tie each one with their anti-choice statements and gain more votes. The other is just most people don't care and go on life the same way as before.

I think the first is more likely because most reasonable people believe abortion is needed (with restrictions). It is a matter that affects everyone. In a lot of abortion cases, the man is involved (and for abortion).

9. Anecdotal, but I've run into a lot of lazy cynicism that the Republicans "would never really do it..

...because it's too lucrative a source of fundraising/votes for them".

My social contacts have changed since I've heard those views -- partly Covid, partly Trump -- but my notion is that a non-insignificant number will realize "They're really going to pull the trigger" and wake the eff up.

voters. They are a large swath of the electorate that’s known for not showing up at the polls but I don’t see them taking this quietly. Its very, very difficult to take rights away from people especially ones that have an enormous impact on their lives. And the reality is, rich women will have access to abortion just like they always have. It’s the perfect issue to bring economic, racial and gender inequality front and center. Throw in all the RWNJ yelling “My body, My choice” to avoid getting a vaccine… yeah, with the right branding repealing Roe vs Wade could burn the Republican Party to the ground.

without choice. I guess we will see how important it is to them.
Meanwhile the Dems will and should use this issue to beat the Republicans in 2022. We continue to broaden our party while theirs continues to shrink. And more of them are dying from Covid.

I’ve been involved in one way or another with the pro-choice movement since 1976. It seemed like no matter what we did, we couldn’t convince people of the danger that we now find ourselves in. Maybe they’ll wake up now. A little late, I think.
