Updated question. What can we do to stand in solidarity with Rep Ilhan Omar?

Last edited Wed Dec 1, 2021, 10:10 PM - Edit history (2)

(Originally I had asked:

You know what we could do to stand in solidarity w Rep Ilhan Omar? Start wearing headscarves.
Or wear them similarly to Muslim women.

There are so many of us.

I got dirty looks from a couple folks and couldn’t figure out who rained in their Cheerios till I got home.

I’ll start. Obscure gesture, I realize.)

So ok, not that.

What else?

Donations obvs but lots of us are not able at the moment.

Looking forward to all good ideas. Mahalo.

sorry, I could not do that - I know people should be free to wear what they want but it seems very sexist to me

thinks I am responsible for men's self-control.

I'll fight for her right to wear it if she chooses, but no way in hell is wearing one "in solidarity" going to be a thing.

She's in a D+26 district.

Plenty of Democrats in competitive seats who do.

More to the point, why do we need to "stand in solidarity" with her because a fringe Republican who nobody takes seriously said something stupid?

And I did say OR a donation to a group that fights against Muslim bigotry.

I wasn't thinking of MTG or LB - I was thinking of the lunatic who called her and threatened her life.

The caller obviously did take her (or both) serious. As do all Trump supporters.

It's not as if there exist no evidence of right-wingers acting on their hate speech.

Give to the ACLU or the SPLC or group that defends against Muslin discrimination primarily. Or whatever group you feel comfortable with that fights against discrimination of Muslims.
