Emma Tustin and Thomas Hughes from Solihull, West Midlands, deny murdering Arthur Labinjo-Hughes in June 2020.
He died after sustaining an "unsurvivable" head injury while in the sole care of Ms Tustin.
Both of the accused also face child cruelty allegations.
Prosecutor Jonas Hankin QC said in his closing statements that both defendants were equally culpable of murdering Arthur.
"In the weeks preceding Arthur's death, he had been subjected to incomprehensible and escalating cruelty that was intended to, and did, cause him significant harm and suffering," Mr Hankin said, branding the abuse "a team effort".
While Ms Tustin is accused of carrying out the fatal assault by violently shaking him and repeatedly banging Arthur's head on a hard surface after poisoning him with a "salt slurry", Mr Hughes was "complicit in the violence," Mr Hankin told jurors.

Only a twat waffle would believe this.

(269,038 posts)He cried and wanted to know why no one loved him. Why didn't those two sociopaths give the child to his grandmother? His grandmother had reported them after seeing bruises on his back. Yet again the system failed a child - the social worker said the family looked happy. Children are being exposed to unbelievable cruelty during this pandemic - way more than usual

(102,288 posts)going on and the steps so many RW-run states have made to prevent any oversight at all. Public schools provide training to teachers and staff to give them some chance of identifying those at risk and the signs of abuse and they do try to follow up absenteeism.
This has no bearing on the UK case, but such grotesque child abuse needs MORE people in the loop watching after children. HRC was right--it takes a village.
We are seeing way more child abuse as a result of the schools locking down.
And the abuse is not only within the family - the neighborhood rapists are omnipresent these days.
Public schools are way more important for our children than many believe. The data across the globe during this pandemic will strengthen the need for public schools.
People either want society or chaos. The debate should dl end now.
This little boy would have been in school away from these evil scumbags.
How does a father encourage this cruelty to his own blood.

(9,762 posts)If I ever meet him in heaven, I will tell him, Im sorry I failed you. I was a grownup in this world and I should have made a world you would be safe and loved in. Im sorry.
And its way too late now to do any good, but in answer to his question, why doesnt anybody love me? I want to answer, I do, precious one. With all my heart.
