Well, it's official. All 21 Genesee County MI school districts have closed, due to threats

At the district where my brother works, this is being treated as a 'snow day'. If this is how the districts will handle these closings, and if most (if not all) of these are pranks, these kids had best hope it's not a hard Winter.

I'm about to head out to do a quick shop at Kroger and this whole atmosphere is wreaking havoc with my anxiety issues.

11. We're at the point where people need to come to their senses

Not just on guns but on the whole range of aberrant right-wing behaviors that have become normalized. It won’t come without a drastic and wholesale change in tone from Democrats. Pelosi called the Republicans “silly” yesterday for linking vaccine mandates to a government shutdown. That’s not silly, it’s insane. They are insane.

baldly say what is going on, to finally say ENOUGH! Then, keep saying it, hammer the fact that no, we're done being nice, the behavior that we are seeing needs to stop, that they need to stop playing games and be adults.

how divided communities and organizations and social groups are. It's probably a handful of crazies off the edge on the fringe right, but after an incident like this week I think it wise to pause and assess risk. Schisms could be present anywhere.

Genesee County is the second to cancel classes countywide for Friday. Tuscola County public schools also collectively decided to cancel classes due to rampant threats online.

Bay City Public Schools also will be closed Friday, according to an announcement posted on the district's Facebook page late Thursday evening. The post says Bay City Central High School received a threat around 8 p.m. Thursday. Administrators don't believe the threat is credible, but they are closing the district "out of an abundance of caution."

Genesee County school officials say many of the threats reported on Thursday did not include specific information and likely lack credibility. Administrators spent much of Thursday working closely with local law enforcement agencies to investigate each threat reported to their districts.

Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton charged a student from Flint Southwestern Academy on Thursday with threatening to "shoot up" the school. He warned that threats against schools carry heavy legal consequences.

Administrators were made aware of a threat of violence toward Bay City Central High School this evening at approximately 8PM. The threat originated via social media, and appears to be a viral "challenge" for students to post. The photo and threat has been seen in several other districts.

Bay City, MI is about 30-mi north of Flint and not in Genesee County.

I sense there's a bunch of kids that need to have their smart phones taken away for about a year. Give them a cheap flip phone just for making emergency calls.
