Trump faces flurry of investigations beyond Jan. 6 probe

…. That includes two major state criminal investigations — one in New York and one in Georgia — and lawsuits concerning sexual assault allegations, a fight over an inheritance and questions of whether he should be held personally liable for inciting the insurrection. ….

1. I think it all comes down to who has the stomach to prosecute a former President.

Then, even if they do and convict. What kind of sentence do you think and 75 year old, white, rich man, first conviction and former President is going to get?

Out of statutes of limitations and probably whatever evidence there is would not be enough.

2. If this persistent law breaker walks, look out for the U.S of A.

You saw the reaction to Rittenhouse walking out of court. That will be a spring stroll compared to if Trump walks. I, for one, will be one of the protesters and it's all I can do to walk myself.

My main concern is that I'm still able to read the details of all the convictions if and when they happen. I've been waiting for a long, long time and he isn't good for anyone's health necessary to outlast him and enjoy his convictions. (Note: That last word is convictionS!)

3. The GA case is the really befuddling one to me.

I can understand (but do not agree) how the DoJ would prefer to protect the Executive Branch/President so they are slow walking or not performing any investigations.

I can certainly understand how digging into a complex paper trail and uncertain witness testimony could draw out the NY fraud case.

However, the GA case mystifies me since it seems like a pretty open and shut case with evidence and it’s being handled by the Fulton County prosecutor’s office and not the office of the GA Attorney General. Unless the Fulton County office is run by a Republican, none of it makes any sense.

5. I agree. It's the one seemingly open and shut case.

I've seen some former officials opining he can be
gotten on covid mishandling/misinformation/negligence. But that doesn't seem to
be as important as actual election interference does it? Makes me think that
they (prosecutors) might select something not so egregious and then
let him off with a stern warning. Hope I'm wrong. If Trump isn't indicted on
very serious charges relating to the undermining of a legitimate election,
then, well my suspicions about the corruption, back room dealing and fecklessness of our
government as well as its ultimate direction will be confirmed. Fuck, at that point,
I'd rather move to Mexico or Costa Rica b/c at least there is no bullshit pretense about being some
shining city on hill. We are all about the appearance of rectitude while protecting the monied
classes at all costs. It's like when you finally grasp (and accept) the fact your lover has been cheating
on you for years. In which case, I'd prefer the company of a prostitute b/c at least I'd know
it's purely transactional.

6. Georgia AG is a trumpster, so he'll do nothing. The case is probably too big for Fulton County

and I'm sure it will be seen as a political attack, not that I care. You are right, it sure seems an open and shut case.

Plus, I'm sure Fulton County has some concern the still powerful rube-neck areas will hurt Atlanta in important State legislation that could negatively impact Atlanta.

I was hopeful when the Fulton County investigation was first announced, but it has been way too long when the evidence is on tape and everyone has heard it. If trump had directly threatened Raffensperger or the state during the call, we'd have his worthless rear.

His strategy for Decades has been to stall, stall, run out the clock. Him trying to use “Executive Privilege” is bogus, he’s out of office, but he’s shameless.

Hope he eventually gets held accountable for his numerous crimes.
