What ever happened to Congress passing an actual budget to fund federal government expenditures for a year?
"I know! I know! Call on me!"
Republicans happened. With no ideas of their own and no plans for the future, Republicans in Congress can do only one thing: Obstruct. And they have long experience with doing exactly that.
That obstructionism has become the Republican Party's trademark. It is one of the many things we should be using to campaign against Republicans in every election. Why? Because the federal government needs a budget that sets out expenditures for the ensuing year. A Continuing Resolution is no substitute for actual planning and funding.
The Republican Party is the Do-Nothing Party. It is the party of Obstruction. We should share that information with voters in every election race. The Democratic Party is the Doer's Party. We will do things that help our country be better. We will do things that help people live their lives better. We will help. The Republicans will simply say NO! to everything and kick the can down the road one more time.

They're cutting almost all the way through the studs in the walls of our democracy - next election comes along, the whole thing collapses. That's really something.

(82,849 posts)Yesterday's breathless reporting was all focused on the nitwits of the Republican Senators who demanded a vote on de-funding any public health mandates that might save the lives of Americans. Mike Lee of Utah was being championed as a totally reasonable human being who just wanted a vote on his amendment.
Today? Well, okay, the continuing resolution passed, just like President Biden, Majority Leader Schumer, and Speaker Pelosi said it would, but now we're treated to the "but they got it done only at the last minute," as if that was somehow the fault of the Democratic leadership. What was being sold as a Herculean task yesterday, maybe impossible, got done with minimum of fuss and no drama, and today it's a shrug from our liberal media.
