A bunch of repubs voted against, but McConnell apparently wouldn't allow a hold or a block, which virtually any Senator could do.

It was never gonna fail, but there were some who wanted, as was said in a post above, to fuck around for a couple of days for some reason.

but I believe that Chuck Schumer had to promise Mike Lee that he would hold an up or down vote (no filibuster rule) on president Biden's vaccine mandate for companies with 100 or more employees. It also appears that Senator Manchin is leaning to vote with the GQPers. Regardless what Manchin does, the House will never agree to stopping president Biden's mandate, nor wood president Biden ever sign such a bill. This is my opinion of what went down and I could be entirely wrong about it.

don't want to upset the apple cart.

I hope the oligarchs who see their fortunes expanding at a record clip remember come election time that they do best when competent Democrats are in charge.

They lose big when the government is shut down, just like the rest of us. Just shutting down Air Traffic Control, alone, will screw a bunch of business, and not just the airlines. It will also hurt shipping companies, like UPS, along with the hotel/hospitality industry, professional and college sports teams, who would have to shut down, because they can't play "away" games, etc. And, they know the more than a million government employees will have no income to spend at their businesses, nor will those who receive government aid of various types.
