4. Disagree.

They believe only in their own interests. They believe in what they desire.

States Rights? They are fighting to have the stricter gun laws in New York and California overturned. That is against the right of the states to make laws appropriate for their jurisdiction correct? Hence "states rights".

They have also been trying to crack down on cannabis laws in States that are more lenient. They want the feds to go after Cannabis aggressively despite State jurisdictions passing laws that their people want.

It isn't about States Rights. It isn't about small government. It isn't about family values. It isn't about fiscal responsibility.

All of those are framing devices for the right wing. They do not care about those concepts in any real sense of them. What they care about is the function and scope of government. They care about social control, and they care about where the government places resources.

I think that we need to stop using the right wing's framing on issues. We need to talk about what is really going on.

Right wingers want to control the sexuality and reproductive rights of women. They want specific people to be armed (I guarantee you if large groups of liberal Black and Brown people started arming up, they would find a way to restrict certain "gun rights&quot . It has nothing to do with States or Human rights. It has to do with a worldview that right wingers want to bring about.

States rights is ANYTHING they want and ANYTHING they don't want.

Right wingers love to play with language.

i retweeted the steinem quote, then put it on fb & in a dem group on fb.
fb flagged it in that group so i googled.
apparently gloria steinem did not say that.
this from february:
Fact check: Quote about guns has long been misattributed to Gloria Steinem
https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/factcheck/2021/02/09/fact-check-gloria-steinem-shared-didnt-write-post-guns-abortion/4437288001/

but there are other links on google going back to october 2017 saying she did not say that

(i wish she had)
(someone said it--and it's a great comparison--if i was on my other computer i could just cut her name off the top of the quote. something to do later i guess)

thanks for posting all these great replies.
i always appreciate it when you do that (either on my threads or other threads with twitter posts)

But it certainly spawned some great replies. Some of these I run across are even more spot on than the original message - and certainly clever - so I can't resist passing those on. We need all the positive messages we can get these days...
