Just A Thought Here - Can Lawmakers Be Charged With Involuntary Manslaughter When....

there is a mass shooting like the one in Michigan?

Here me out - the lawmakers have the means to protect us by passing laws that aim to protect us. They are responsible for their constituents - just like parents are responsible for their children.

When lawmakers refuse to pass such protective laws - aren't they party to any of the mayhem that may occur as a result of their refusal to protect us?

Why can the parents of this Michigan kid be charged with 'involuntary manslaughter' and why shouldn't the lawmakers be charged with 'involuntary manslaughter' as well. Couldn't and issue be made that they were negligent in their duties - because they had the ability to pass laws that would protect?

Just a thought here. I'm trying to think out of the box on this. After listening to this news conference on this school shooting - I'm terribly disturbed. This shooting could have been prevented.

It protects legislators from being sued, prosecuted or having to testify or produce documents in court proceedings for all actions taken in connection with legislative activity.

Legislative immunity is granted to Congress by the Speech or Debate Clause in Article I of the Constitution and has been extended to state and local legislators through the federal common law. ... Legislative immunity also extends to officials outside the legislative branch participating in the legislative process.

How about the people who elected them?

Aren't the voters responsible for who gets elected?

Aside from which, if you go into a school and shoot people, it's pretty clear you are already not in compliance with relevant laws.

Nobody made what this kid did legal.

They aren't responsible for a single thing I choose to do as an adult.

This strikes me as a very, very strange mindset.

Paternalistic with a longing for authority.

It's just weird.
