that allow them to cross the border without a passport. Don't know if Michigan does. But there is still the issue of needing a negative covid test to enter Canada.

Could they have left the urban area for a more remote part of Michigan to cross into Canada away from entry points?

We live 20 miles from the Canadian border on the west coast. Canadian Immigration always asks if you have firearms in the car. I don't think this pair could bluff their way past Canadian officials who are pretty good at reading people. I'd look south or west for them.
