Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI just made the largest political donation I have ever made - to Stacey Abrams
For a long time, my donations were small because I had to support my family and there was always more medical, school, or credit card debt that needed payments.
Yesterday, I donated $1000 to Stacey Abrams. For most of us, that's a lot of money and it still is for me, but things are better financially and ousting Brian Kemp from the governor's office is essential.
It's going to be difficult. The Republican-dominated legislature and Kemp have made it more difficult to vote by mail.
Please give if you can.

I am thinking about how my husband, though an electoral supporter, was not an avid financial supporter, until the campaigns of two other wonderful Georgians: Warnock and Ossoff! Last election cycle.
Go, Stacy!

(8,845 posts)I am always sorry that I am not a Dem Zillionaire..............
I laugh whenever I hear about one of the Dem Mega Billionaires getting press for giving ten million, one hundred million, etc to some good cause or candidate. It is appreciated, but when you are worth 50 Billion plus, it is merely pocket or dash change........

(2,551 posts)We sent in $20.22 this week when she announced. Even though its been 25 years since I lived in GA Ive been motivated to support her by her speech and actions. Besides that Kemp fellow is a total putz.

(12,170 posts)With both Abrams and Sen. Warnock on the ballot, we should be able to motivate more less-likely voters in 2022 than in a typical off-year election. So this is a great use of your donation $$.
One thing I noticed in both Nov. 2020 and Jan. 2021 is that more Democrats than usual turned out in counties all across the state. Even in counties that Trump and Perdue/Loeffler won, the margin of Republican victory was tighter than usual. Add up a few hundred votes in several counties, a couple of thousand in others, plus the blue tsunami in Fulton, DeKalb, and other Dem urban areas, and in a state-wide election you can put together a winning formula.
We can thank Stacey Abrams, Nse Ufot, and other activists for their tireless work in getting out the vote in those two elections and thus for the razor-thin Dem majority in the Senate.
Obviously, it also didnt hurt that a bunch of GQP voters sat the election out, especially in 1/21, because theyd been brainwashed that it was all rigged. We cant count on that again, and with the Kemp-Raffensperger-legislature voter suppression tactics in play for 2022, weve definitely got our work cut out for us.
Ill be contributing dollars and sweat to the Stacey Abrams campaign (as well as Warnocks) in the coming months. Its great to know we have a lot of people rooting for our success.
