on Netflix? Whoa!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cumberbatch is a whole new level of pure hate! Great acting by the whole cast, great directing by Jane Campion.

(16,786 posts)While there seems to have a slow calm about it, there is some much undercurrent tension in this film. We'll done. I will need to watch it again.

(49,389 posts)The authenticity of the props and signage were able to keep my interest, but the dramatic pace became to much for me.

(6,544 posts)Nothing about it sounds in the least entertaining, nor positive. Exploitation of anger and hatred ... if I want that I'll watch Fox
I have better things to do with my time.

(11,230 posts)I tried watching the movie twice, but the dialogue was just so awful. And, I got the impression the actors were not really into this movie.

(1,418 posts)It was the subtle ending, but the person I was watching with immediately got it (I did not).
Apart from the weird story line, the cinematography was excellent. Once I understood what happened, I kind of liked it.

(4,442 posts)My wife and I kept making predictions about what was going to happen, and then changing our minds and making new predictions. It's a strange movie, with slow pacing until the final 15 minutes or so. I thought the acting was very good, especially true for Cumberbatch.
I like what the director, Jane Campion, said about the film:
As the title stands, its a kind of warning. The power of the dog is all those urges, all those deep, uncontrollable urges that can come and destroy us, you know?
She used Donald Trump as an example: Like, when things didnt go well for him, he melted. He couldnt ever even say the words I lost. He created this massive fiction. Even to say the word failure is just not an option for someone like him, for these kinds of men.

Living in rural red America, I already see way too much of that from supporters of TFG.
