and it just gets better! Of course this post wouldn't be worth much without pics - so...
Our justice of the peace in a church in Hanover, NH - Dec 6, 1980 - our wedding day. I was 23, she 22! (seems inconceivably young to me when thinking back!)
Our well aged selves - hiking at DuPont, with Marlin photobombing us.
And what are we doing? I got up and made us Gingerbread waffles (Smitten Kitchen recipe - pretty amazing), soon heading to downtown Hendersonville to eat lunch outside somewhere (mid 60s today), maybe just walk the streets of downtown. Later on - finish watching the Beatles new documentary, Get Back. Nothing extraordinary - yet just like each day in our 41 years, quite extraordinary!

(60,015 posts)I've always considered myself a bit funny looking. My wife....she's been the most beautiful person, outwardly and inwardly, since the day I met her, to me!

(47,131 posts)You are both above average in the looks department.
And the second picture really shows the love between you two, the comfort and connection.
Your words here show the respect, adoration and appreciation you have for your wife.
Some say marriage is like a love lottery, and I would say you two hit the jackpot!

(146,317 posts)After 30 years of marriage, I understand why marrying your best friend is the best possible move you can make.
Friendship can be a forever thing. Everything else might not be, it seems.

(21,360 posts)We hit 50 on Dec. 18th. Got married during a snow storm. Wife just told me what she wants, hard to believe, just to be with me, just like you two are doing, ain't it great?

(60,015 posts)they are pretty quick to throw together. They really do NOT need much if any maple syrup - we just used a powdered sugar dusting. Warning - sweet and addictive (and melt in your mouth light). They taste just like my wife's Gingerbread. You gotta love molasses and ginger (and sweet!) to like these!

(58,785 posts)Lots of coffee for me. One of our grandsons would immerse himself in straight pumpkin pie and gingerbread, and whipped cream, for the season if he could, though. He's the one I especially thought of. His grandfather's our waffle maker.

(54,405 posts)The day passes, you mark it, celebrate it, and then celebrate the fact that it was one more day together. Like you said, quite extraordinary! My wife and I met at age 22, 47 years ago. Some of us are just lucky to find "the one" early in life.
The trick is know it.

(17,066 posts)I thank my lucky stars every day and wish everyone could know such comfort, security, and happiness. Has it been one non-stop party? No. But we've come through it together and learned so much from each other. I am truly blessed. Many more years of happiness to you, NHL, and to your beautiful wife!

(60,015 posts)my wife was a nurse - stopped that some time ago to make and sell memory and T shirt quilts (she's nearly done with that now, too).
my 25 year career in pharma ended when I was 52 - consulted for a few years, then started my "new" career of writing and garden speaking. I'm starting to ease away on those as well. Ready to just have lots of hikes, books, music and movies (and dogs and cats!)

(153,169 posts)by the way, you think 23 was young? My dad had three kids by that age (I was the middle one).

(4,473 posts)You are indeed fortunate. I lost my best friend just short of our 45th wedding anniversary. Suzanne had ALS, diabetes, and heart problems -- take your pick as to which one was responsible for her death. It was a marriage cut far too short.
Treasure your time together, and I hope that you get to see many more.
