Ex-Neighbor Says She Warned Children's Protective Services About Oxford Shooter's Parents

An ex-neighbor of Oxford High School shooter Ethan Crumbley's family said she called Children's Protective Services to complain about the way his parents were raising their son. Crumbley fatally shot four students and injured several others on Tuesday.

Kayla LeMieux said that the Crumbley parents, James and Jennifer, would often leave their son alone at home while they went to bars, the Detroit Free Press reported on Sunday.

On Saturday, the Crumbley parents were arrested and charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter. Oakland County prosecutor Karen McDonald on Thursday blamed them for their son's actions and said that they should be held accountable as well for the mass shooting.

"The actions on mom and dad's behalf go far beyond negligence," McDonald said.

I can't be certain that the gun was the only one in the house Nov 30, 2021, but I got a sense there were others then.

If then, perhaps also earlier in 2015.

Things in that household were a bit "off" for him and he returned to live with his mother in Florida. His mother has shared in interviews that Jennifer Crumbley is a "monster."

not pay child support and she was so relieved when he turned 18 because then she wouldn't have to constantly deal with the crappy father (and his crappy wife) anymore. She just filed in November to get a small amount of child support in arrears as of October 18 (probably day before he turned 18).

I'm in my 50's, I grew up in the 70's and 80's, but my parents wouldn't have left my oldest brother alone at 9, in charge of two younger kids, for a night out. I remember there were circumstances where we were by ourselves for a half-hour or so after school, but that was rare. I stopped using a regular sitter for my own kids when my older son turned twelve, but even then I was uneasy--my boys would get into fights, over who took the last Hot Pocket or whose turn it was to take the dogs out, and call me at work, LOL.

Just irresponsible people who've been in and out of trouble most of their lives. They have an overinflated view of themselves that makes it easy for them to blame other s for their own lot in life. Both arrested multiple times, both in debt, father is a dead beat dad. Looking to blame all of their own shortcomings on immigrants or libs.

Going out drinking while leaving a 9 year old boy home alone and probably scared. Sick.

grandmother died in April 2021 in Florida. Sounds like there had been a bitter custody dispute between father and ex-girlfriend (mother of Eli). Whack-job wife (Ethan's mother) was a big instigator of trouble. She's the one from Michigan, not the father. He was born and raised in Florida.

At any rate, Ethan experienced the loss of his older brother's companionship and the loss of his grandmother earlier this year. The whack-job father must have been affected by his mother's death (she was only 63) and then his older son deciding he's better off living in Florida with his mother. The father's a blame deflector and his whack-job wife/mother of Ethan is probably very skilled in knowing how to push the buttons to direct the negative emotions away from her and onto others.

Just some armchair analysis.

Edited to correct relationship between half-brother's mother and his and Ethan's father. She was an ex-girlfriend not an ex-wife.

Agency's can't function properly if their not funded. We let billionaires pay no taxes and in turn, we don't properly fund the agencies that might could have intervened. That is true with a LOT of agencies. Anyone but me remember the "public employees don't produce anything therefore are a waste of money" Republican tirade?

So the older brother would have been the guardian in that case, but it sounds like he wasn't there either?
