With the Supreme Court ready to roll reproductive rights back to the 1950's to join Civil and Voting rights that they've already sent there, I am not surprised to see "oh, this will be the death knell of the Retrumplican Party" attitudes popping out.
Sorry, but I keep getting promised the demise of the Retrumplican Party, and I keep getting disappointed. Funny, but I also keep hearing that this is the year the Browns go to the Super Bowl. It's all bullshit.
For sure, an attack on our Congress and the first non-peaceful transfer of power in your nations history was surely enough to destroy the Retrumplican Party, right?
No, sorry! Just 10 months after that, a complete whack job slate of Retrumplican nut jobs swept all statewide offices in VA. A state, BTW, that was close enough to the insurrection to smell the tear gas, bear spray and blood.
Didn't matter that the capitol was still smoldering, or that a Retrumplican majority in Texas had just done an end run around the Constitution by making abortion subject to bounty hunter vigilante justice. The Retrumplicans were rewarded for that.
Georgia and other Retrumplican controlled states passed sweeping voter suppression laws.
Oh, do you remember the outrage? Hell, even Delta Airline, FEDEX and Major League Baseball were sooooo woke, they were going to put a stop to this blatant, racist power grab, right?
So, I guess that Delta and FEDEX have left Georgia, and the San Diego Braves won the World Series, right?
At every outrage I've asked myself; "what outrage is finally going to be a bridge too far"?
I'm sorry, but the answer is there is not a bridge too far.
I don't know how our country comes back from this.
I don't know how I come back from this.
I have never hated with the intense fire of hate that I currently have.
I have never looked at my neighbor, and realized that their support for the Retrumplican Party makes me wretch at the mere thought of breaking bread with them.
There is no outrage too outrageous for the Retrumplicans.
There is no cruelty too cruel for the Retrumplicans.
There is no way to compromise or reach consensus with these people.

(4,616 posts)Doing the same thing and expecting a different result. Republicans are allowed to run amok. And they will continue until they are actually stopped. The filibuster would be a good start. But no, we need to keep abiding by "rules" that haven't existed in quite a long while.

(8,301 posts)There hasn't been a national election since before an attempted coup. But based on public opinion and the likelihood of a bad SCOTUS ruling, I do think that if democracy sticks around (an increasingly fragile wager), we will see the death of the current republican party as we know it.

(9,291 posts)I feel this way today too. Listening to the top article over at The Atlantic makes me ill, sad and mad. I understand everything you posted today.
Im not sure if any country can proceed acting so irrational.
