Fuck all these people who give the finger to the DOJ.
(CNN)Former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows will no longer cooperate with the House select committee investigating January 6 insurrection, according to a letter from his attorney to the panel, which was obtained by CNN on Tuesday.
"We agreed to provide thousands of pages of responsive documents and Mr. Meadows was willing to appear voluntarily, not under compulsion of the Select Committee's subpoena to him, for a deposition to answer questions about non-privileged matters. Now actions by the Select Committee have made such an appearance untenable," the letter from George J. Terwilliger II stated.
"In short, we now have every indication from the information supplied to us last Friday - upon which Mr. Meadows could expect to be questioned -= that the Select Committee has no intention of respecting boundaries concerning Executive Privilege," Terwilliger added.
CNN first reported last week that Meadows had begun cooperating with the committee, handing over thousands of documents and agreeing to appear for an interview this
week.

Must be the double top secret way to leak stuff so important. But it's not like any news org or the DOJ is on it, so why not?

(14,004 posts)I know a lot of people here have given up on Garlands DOJ but I think well see some action coming out of his office sometime in the coming months. If no one has been indicted by mid-2023 then Ill concede that its probably not going to happen.

(111,102 posts)Before they get more aggressive with their subpoena demands?
They expected a decision from the Court of Appeals yesterday, in my opinion. But it never came.

(3,245 posts)his options are pretty few.
He can either plead the fifth which would look really bad or look for immunity from the committee.
I'm guessing the second.

(7,838 posts)He is also trying to run out the clock. The committee needs to get tough and play hardball with these traitors. Time is wasting away, at this speed they won't get any where! NOT ONE OF THESE CRIMINALS CAN BE TRUSTED! PERIOD!

(42,770 posts)coincides with the amount of support you have from the general public. It's just a pure fact of natural behavior, especially in politics. Just like FG and articles of impeachment written by Steve Cohen D-TN. It was 11/15/17 about time FG approval was at its lowest. Thought I'd mention that one last time because I'm not going to mention it again in 2022 going forward LOL

(12,870 posts)When did Joe Biden grant executive privilege for this?
Because, of course, Meadows and his lawyer must know TFG has no authority or privilege in this matter.

(33,162 posts)I was wondering why all of the buzzing out of Mar-a-frago had amped up recently.
TFG probably offered Meadows a pardon once he's re-installed in 2022 by finally prevailing in his claims 2020 waz stolenz!

(21,756 posts)1 - This is the first time I've seen anyone on the right describe 1/6 as an "Attack on the United States Capitol". That seems to be an admission they have previously tried to stay away from. What changed?
2 - The entire claim about thinking they would testify voluntarily is bullshit. The subpoena had been issued and the select committee has already voted to send criminal recommendation to DOJ, all it needs is a floor vote (and that will pass). That, combined with Bannon being charged was what changed his mind before. What changed?
3 - If this is a delay tactic, it is a really bad one. They gained what? A week? If it was a delay tactic, they could have easily gotten much more... No, something changed.
4 - They are also freely admitting that taking the 5th "is tantamount to an admission of guilt"... What happened to their claim that it would be no such thing? Again, something changed.
5 - The whole bullshit paragraph near the end about "legislative purpose" is... Well bullshit and they know it. Garland is careful and meticulous, he certainly went through the legal standards when Bannon made the same claims. They knew this when they agreed to comply... See a pattern here... Something changed.
The letter covers nothing new, nothing not known before he agreed to comply. Meadows and/or his lawyers got wind of something new they do not mention in the letter and not stated publicly by the select committee yet. I suspect it will be very interesting when we find out exactly what it was that changed.

(3,628 posts)He is taking the fifth, not pretending the subpoena has no power. Over at the orange place it was suggested that the metadata in some of the documents show that the letters which were sent to state attorneys general have Trump admin fingerprints all over them, which could contradict any testimony that they didn't. Meadows' 180 is apparently about coincident with that revelation.
