I'm beginning to wonder...a hypothetical

Let's say the Select Committee gets enough hard facts to prove beyond any doubt that Trump, Eastman, Clark, Bannon, Jordan, Meadows et al, plotted and planned the events leading to the Jan 6 insurrection and are all indicted and convicted of an attempted coup or whatever the hell the charge might be...

Do you really think it will change anything? I don't...

There would still be a core of hard-right fans of authoritarianism, but many people would walk away from the whole Trump thing and refuse to vote in people who were hard-core Trumpers.

Just my opinion.

Any one of those bastards actually serving hard time would have a huge impact. The shockwaves would be felt all the way down to the local level. The illusion of invincibility would be stripped away

If that well of support is still overflowing, the monster will regrow a new head if the current one is chopped off

same reason the implosion of the NRA hasn't changed the gun safety situation

the fringes are louder and more engaged, and why politicians increasingly are abandoning the middle. Social media has allowed them to coordinate to a degree never before possible

new ball game if a couple big names go down. Just imagine how that would invigorate the Democratic base.

and planned" . . . . .

They might show that trump's, etc., actions and rhetoric enticed white wing rubes to assemble at Capitol. But that's about it.

Besides, no jury will convict trump of anything remotely political. Too many white wing "patriots" for a unanimous conviction.

As to whether it will change anything. Probably not, because there are elected GOPers who are just as bad as trump, if not worse, ready to run for office.

..I agree it would give GQP radicals some pause if they realize they can be held accountable. But the supposedly tens of millions who claim to believe Trump won, will continue to believe Trump won.

Which is the primary concern...
