Michael Gerson: “Under the intellectual and moral leadership of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), Republicans in the House have done their best to set a standard of deadly misinformation, poisonous bigotry and mental vacuity. But Republicans in the Senate — possessing greater intellectual kilowattage and fewer excuses for cowardice — have recently taken center stage in the GOP festival of small-mindedness.”

“During last week’s budget negotiations, and as America prepared for the full-scale arrival of the omicron coronavirus variant, every present Senate Republican voted to ‘defund’ the federal vaccine mandate on businesses, the military and the federal workforce…”

“This is the strangest political cause of my lifetime. In the midst of a public health emergency that has taken more than 1 of every 500 American lives and which has reduced average life expectancy by 1.67 years (reversing about 14 years of life expectancy gains), Republican officials are actively discouraging citizens from taking routine medical precautions for their own welfare. This is not just a disagreement about policy. It is a political movement organized around increasing the risk of death to your neighbors, particularly your ill and elderly ones. And while it is certainly selfish, is not ultimately self-interested. Fatalities have increased especially in Republican-leaning portions of the country. A death cult has adopted a death wish.”

I was watching Chris Hayes the other day and he was talking about this topic. He stated, rather naively in my opinion, that he used to think that people who were "Pro Life" were earnest, but wrong, and that it stemmed from his Catholic upbringing where he knew people who, as I would say, "walked the walk". I was also raised Catholic, so I knew people like that as well. People who not only protested abortion, but who would go to anti-war rallies and get arrested, who protested Capital Punishment, and who promoted social welfare to feed the hungry, give shelter to the homeless, and who visited those in prison. They basically followed the Beatitudes. Those people, though I and Hayes think they were still wrong on abortion, at least could argue they were pro life.

The Republican Party however, has NEVER, NEVER been pro-life. Their policies have always been about militarism and war, about punishing people by killing them, about refusing to help people who they thought were lazy and deserved to suffer. That is not pro life. They are anti-choice. That is all.

They want to "punish" women for their sexuality, regardless of whether the sex was consensual or if they were raped. This is something that Republicans have been able to frame with no pushback from society. "Republicans are the party of small government, of personal responsibility, of fiscal responsibility, and family values". All BS!!

Republicans do not care about the size of government. They care only about its function. They want a small, weak government when it comes to intervening in the affairs of the wealthy. They will grow the shit out of government to police morals and enforce the social hierarchy. Republicans are for YOU taking responsibility for being a victim of systems that are larger and more powerful than you are. YOU as an individual must take on the corporations. Notice that Republicans NEVER take any responsibility for their actions, it is "the devil" or some external force that made them make their mistress get an abortion. Fiscal responsibility? Please!! They will spend whatever it takes to spread capitalist hegemony around the world, to use the military to ensure profits. What they hate, and absolutely will not spend on, is the underserving scum in the middle, working, and poor classes. Finally, family values, see my description of the politicians who are usually Republicans, holier than thou in speech and legislative efforts, who end up getting caught with prostitutes, forcing their girlfriend to get an abortion, trafficking minors, molesting pages and children, soliciting gay sex in public restrooms, etc... They want to impose morality on the "lowers" but think that debauchery is something the "superiors" have earned.

Everything the Republican Party says it stands for is bullshit!!.
