By Cristina Cabrera December 7, 2021 9:40 a.m.
Former Trump legal adviser John Eastman, aka the attorney who tried to mastermind a coup to keep a president who definitively lost an election in power, is simply appalled by the House Jan. 6 select committee using its authority to get to the bottom of him trying to mastermind a coup.
Speaking to a sympathetic Tucker Carlson on Fox News Monday night, Eastman accused the committee of shredding the entire Constitution by sending subpoenas for his testimony and telecommunication records.
This group that wants to advance a Soviet Communist-style agenda we shouldnt be surprised that theyre using Soviet Stalinist tactics to do it, said Eastman, who wrote a blueprint on how Mike Pence could hijack the 2020 election certification process for Trump.

I guess when you go to Federalist Society meetings they drink the kool aid.....they probably forgot or even came up with power points to not know what conspiracy is in law school to be a member....or it should be eliminated.....just lock his ass up..... and as for Carlson he is a danger to society....just ask him about Covid.....did he or did he not get a vaccine shot and did he tell his followers....

(31,828 posts)The Fascist commit the crimes, the Democratic Party gets blamed, the Federal Republic Falls - and the Fascists get away with it.
This is why we MUST start calling them Fascists.
The Magistrate
(95,247 posts)Some months of being beaten and starved in a basement, questioned without sleep under bright lights, and then either a bullet in the head or transport in an unheated cattle car for a couple of thousand miles jammed so tight no one can do a thing but stand, and then doing twenty years digging canals on two thin plates of soup a day under supervision of people without the slightest interest in whether he lives or dies actually does seem appropriate....

(11,684 posts)My siblings think it is totally different. Trump is not Hitler (he's not), Americans are not ignorant of history (they are for the most part), and they are not easily swayed by propaganda (duh, you love Trump ipso facto).
So now they love Trump. Call him a kleptocrat, an oligarch, a xenophobe, a racist, even an authoritarian. But he doesnt quite fit the definition of a fascist. https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/21521958/what-is-fascism-signs-donald-trump Doers that even matter.
Looking back in history and knowing the abhorrent suffering of your relatives, I post with solemnity.

(15,646 posts)Machiavellian accusations in the days, weeks, months ahead. Democrats are now "Stalinists" on Fox News.
... Imagine that, the far right has stepped beyond the labels "tyrants", "fascists", "Nazis" in describing Democrats. Could that possibly mean they see Nazis in a better light?

(10,303 posts)... Guantanamo Bay. The USSR made their dissidents "disappear". If Mr. Eastman was to complain of Soviet style tactics being used against him then the powers that be do have a location to "disappear" him to.
Until then he needs to IMO STFU lest he learns what actual Stalinist techniques are. The Jan 6th Commission is about as close to Stalinist tactics as we are to finding intelligent life on a distant planet.

(3,243 posts)If they went on any other shows they might get someone that would point out that the Jan 6 committee is trying to stop a Soviet communist -style agenda- namely, the overturning of a legitimate election by a bunch of insurrectionists.

(82,849 posts)Eastman knows that subpoenas are the legal, civilized way of doing things, but he's pretending they're some kind of underhanded "communist" tool that shreds the Constitution. I don't know where he's admitted to practice law, but the state bar really should take a look at his conduct as it brings the profession into disrepute when a lawyer spouts such un-legal things.

(32,645 posts)The Stalinist Soviet bloc joined the Allies in defeating Germany, but it was only temporary. Don't forget that Stalin made his first deal with Hitler, and then Hitler screwed them. We (US and Britain) knew that Stalin could never be trusted as a full partner. Even the Germans knew it, and that's why they wanted to be defeated and occupied by us, not the Soviets.
The way things are today is so unlike the world chessboard of WWII that it hardly bears resemblance. Russia today is way more libertarian than we are in the US. The Repukes would like to be as libertarian as the Russians are, but that's not gonna happen as long as we have a Constitution and we continue to believe in rule by law.
Putin may stick around for a few more years (I'm guessing) but there are rumors that he's having health problems. If/when he goes out, my guess is the people of Russia are going to make sure another Putin never happens. The Russians of today are way more educated and world-politics-smart now than ever before. At least I hope they are. The internet has created the illusion of an almost level playing field.

(42,567 posts)Hitlers Germany without the Soviets. Thats valuable. And it is the height of hypocrisy for people following the fascist playbook with a leader obsequious to Putin to whine about Stalinist tactics.
It bothers me when people on DU conflate fascism (of Nazi Germany) with communism (of Stalinist Soviet Union) when they had almost nothing in common politically.
Except there was one thing they did have in common: they were both run by autocrats.
