The offer is a meeting between NATO and Putin. This is not giving anything away other than agreeing to talk about what is clearly the existential concern behind Putin's threat to invade Ukraine. It could lessen the likelihood of an invasion.

The US has already made it clear they do want a war. Not to mention, a war in Russia's backyard would be terrible. Yesterday, Biden did tell Putin what we would do if he invaded. This is possibly the way the US helps Putin walk back his threat to Ukraine.

Are we always supposed to be trigger's edge? If diplomacy stops war, I say give it a shot.
