https://www.alternet.org/2021/12/trump-meadows/Details of documents in the possession of former Chief of Staff Mark Meadows show that there was a blueprint for members of the National Guard and U.S. Marshals to take control of the U.S. election system following former President Donald Trump's defeat.
After Meadows decided to abruptly withdraw his cooperation with the House Jan. 6 Select Committee on Tuesday, Chairman Bennie Thompson (D-MS) revealed that Meadows had provided the committee with an email containing a 38-page PowerPoint slideshow titled "Election Fraud, Foreign Interference & Options for 6 JAN."
Author Karen Piper reviewed portions of the slideshow and concluded that it was "nuts."
"It's the craziest thing I've ever seen," Piper wrote on Twitter. She also described the document as "insane."
One slide explains how National Guard in each state would be federalized to count only "legitimate" paper ballots. Meanwhile, U.S. Marshals would be tasked with providing a "protective perimeter around the locations."

(16,847 posts)Is this all some sort of theater to try and appease Trump? Because if he's already given the committee the goods, what difference does it make if he doesn't testify any further?

A stack of papers? Not so much....
The average rumper can ignore a stack of papers that a democrat is talking about. Easily.

(16,847 posts)It's all got to be revealed to everyone like a court case on TV. Everybody needs to know what happened, but I think most people, except for the Trumpers, have heard enough that they already have a good idea of what happened. I wish they could just give all their info to the DOJ and let them take it from there, but that's apparently not going to be enough. It all needs to be seen by the world in the light of day.

(21,550 posts)Select Committee already be turning over some information to DOJ as they collect it? Is there any legal requirement for the Committee to wait until their investigation is complete and then turn in everything at once? Or, can they work in cooperation with DOJ, sharing documents and testimony as the Committee gets it and receiving feedback from DOJ (AG Garland) on what to follow up on in order to build cases?
There are so many people involved in the attempted coup that all the documents and testimonies from and about individuals involved must amount to a huge system of organizing them and keeping the facts and records straight. Where there are gaps in a potential case against any one of the characters, DOJ could request some types of questions or additional people to be questioned if DOJ and the Committee work together.
So, is there anything that would prevent mutual cooperation between the Committee and DOJ as the investigations proceed?

(16,847 posts)I'm sure the President has known all along about all of it, although the information he has seen probably can't be brought out in public. Can't help but wonder what access Garland has had. Have the intelligence agencies shared what they know with him? Pelosi has probably been aware of most of it as well, and Schumer too. So all of these people know, but they can't share what they know in the manner that they learned it. This whole thing with the committee is just the vehicle by which they tell the crimes to the public. That's why the Republicans hate it so much. They know that without the committee hearings, it's hard to expose all of this to the public.

(21,550 posts)efficient and productive for Congress and DOJ to work together on the investigation rather than have DOJ duplicating depositions and collection of documents.
Obtaining records and depositions from the Committee might be better than from FBI investigations since FBI Director Wray is a Federalist and there are Trump supporters embedded among the agents.

(16,847 posts)Yes, I'm sure there have to be things the committee can do to help the DOJ. Hopefully they are.

(65,111 posts)Now, they may be going further to parse which paper ballots are "legitimate". Maybe mail in ballots would be considered "illegitimate".
But, it sounds like they would summarily dismiss any machine ballots. Given their attempts to smear Dominion & Smartmatic, machines were clearly among their targets.
