In the past 2 weeks I have volunteered at a small event in a setting which draws mostly from the local asian communities.
Last week, we had 56 vaccinations, and 2 were the first dose.
Yesterday, we had 83 vaccinations, and *10* were the first dose.
The thought from people was the improvement in the numbers were partly due to worry about the omicron variant, and partly due to outreach getting to people who speak english as a second language or not at all.
They are doing one event a week, and because of the improvement in numbers are considering doing two events per week.
I realize it's pretty small potatoes, and you can read way too much into it for a number of reasons, but nonetheless I found it very hopeful.

(20,629 posts)possibly over-hyped by the media, but if that helped to kick some people in the ass to get vaccinated, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

(22,154 posts)much, if someone should get vaccinated against the Omicron/other varieties of COVID 19 during your wonderful efforts?
Thank you for your efforts by the way.

(4,999 posts)There are mounting reports that:
1. It is very much more contagious than Delta
2. It is not as severe overall -- so the fraction of those infected who die is lower.
Put both of those together and it may be the same result for unvaccinated populations in terms of percent of population with adverse outcomes (as compared to Delta)
I haven't seen any numbers with regard to that aspect, and haven't gone looking for them either.
I am glad to see so many people getting their boosters, it's going to help.

That's the highest average since last May.
