Birds Aren't Real!

Aren’t Real, or Are They? Inside a Gen Z Conspiracy Theory.
Peter McIndoe, the 23-year-old creator of the viral Birds Aren’t Real movement, is ready to reveal what the effort is really about.

In Pittsburgh, Memphis and Los Angeles, massive billboards recently popped up declaring, “Birds Aren’t Real.”

On Instagram and TikTok, Birds Aren’t Real accounts have racked up hundreds of thousands of followers, and YouTube videos about it have gone viral.

Last month, Birds Aren’t Real adherents even protested outside Twitter’s headquarters in San Francisco to demand that the company change its bird logo.

The events were all connected by a Gen Z-fueled conspiracy theory, which posits that birds don’t exist and are really drone replicas installed by the U.S. government to spy on Americans. Hundreds of thousands of young people have joined the movement, wearing Birds Aren’t Real T-shirts, swarming rallies and spreading the slogan.

Apparently, it's a conspiracy theory satire
But there's probably something to it. I think the CIA drone idea is a good one

And here's all you need to know:

Both love it. They know it's fake and don't care.

Best part - they grew up with me dragging them all over to watch birds. When I tell them I saw a bird that shouldn't have been in the area, they remind me the GPS chip must have glitched. Or if a bird lingers too long at the feeder, they remind me it's recharging is power cell.

It's silly and most know it. It isn't anything like the QAnuts.

Either way, they're activated by proximity to the chips that you were injected with during the fake "vaccinations". Since their battery lives are limited, they have to be replaced often.

They had to keep everyone inside for two weeks so they could change all the batteries!

7. the creator of Birds Aren't Real and the movement's followers are in on a joke: They know that birds

are, in fact, real and that their theory is made up.

What Birds Aren’t Real truly is, they say, is a parody social movement
with a purpose. In a post-truth world dominated by online conspiracy theories, young people have coalesced around the effort to thumb their nose at, fight and poke fun at misinformation. It’s Gen Z’s attempt to upend the rabbit hole with absurdism.

It started with a TikTok many years ago
The birds work for the bourgeoisie

All of the birds died in 1986 due to Reagan killing them and replacing them with spies that are now watching us," says then-MU senior Kendrick Smith in the TikTok that would later go viral. "The birds work for the bourgeoisie."
Video is at link with his megaphone
Then it went viral joke and the guy running with it now took off big with interviews
(which are hilarious because the interviewers don’t know what to do with him or the theory) and related products
Billboards tshirts stickers
If you are alarmed or concerned you are part of the joke
