"SNIP.......
Data for Progress: Progressives often argue Democratic insiders are too moderate or conservative, and that the personal political preferences of these elite actors prevents the party from embracing a transformative progressive change.
However, our new analysis suggests that political elites are more supportive of a wide array of progressive policies than the average likely voter.

(73 posts)We can not force progress however, it must happen by the will of the people. Politicians talking and pushing policies out of touch with the average voter will not win elections outside our strongholds. We want more Democratic office holders and may need a temporarily more moderate message to achieve that. We have had a great run, letting off the gas may be helpful, peddle down may wreck all the sacrifices made and leave us with Republicans in charge.

(58,785 posts)liberal policymakers tend to be personally more "progressive" ideologically than the average voters from whom their power comes. This isn't my notion, it's been studied over and over. Shifts in voters toward wanting more empower politicians to strive for more.
If he weren't following his dreams to make a difference, why on earth would anyone become a Democratic politician, struggling constantly just to keep his job, when he could plan to become a wealthy Republican ex-politician instead, reelection until payoff time greased by those he served?

(25,581 posts)They're all corrupt because of campaign contributions from the "donor class," billionaires, corporations, Wall Street ("corporate Dems" "centrists" "neoliberals" ). They do nothing for the middle/working class, morally/intellectually bankrupt, a greater roadblock to progress than Republicans (Republican voters suffer from economic anxiety and support progressive ideas, they'ill eagerly join the economic working class revolution). The corruption message is central:
"The point that I make over and over again ... is the ideas that I talk about are ideas that the American people want. They don't get it because you got a Congress indebted to wealthy campaign contributors."
All dysfunction in politics is caused by money (status quo). It's why the Democratic Party must be transformed. No rich person can be progressive, all corporations are bad (used to be that "millionaires and billionaires" are bad, then it changed to just "billionaires" ). Democrats have the same economic policies as Republicans, thought universal health care, higher wages, higher taxes on the wealthy and corporations, fighting climate change, economic equality, were new and radical ideas until introduced by progressives, but they hate these ideas and hate progressives and will do anything to stop them ("I've got news for the Republican establishment. I've got news for the Democratic establishment. They can't stop us." )
Of course "progressives" believed people they trusted. It's a shame they believed all that nonsense. I hope the word "progressive" can now go back to it's real definition and not the one popular in the last few years, a way to define Democrats as not progressive.
