(65,212 posts)...the Circle K had prices fall every few days since around a week before Thanksgiving.
I got gas a couple days ago, and the listed price was $3.09. (I have the Circle K card, so I pay 6¢ less).
The other 4 stations in town were similar but they've been 5-8¢ higher.
Yesterday, they went up 3¢. First increase in nearly a month.

(7,465 posts)Only ones with any real movement over the past month have been BJs, Sams, Costco and Walmart. Everyone else pretty much stuck where they've been. Still think the pipelines and terminals are pocketing the difference and trying to make Biden look bad in the process.

(51,021 posts)Honestly, I'm so tired of the media.
I hope the recent analysis that shows them how unfair they are will change something, but I doubt it will.

(17,989 posts)Some are admitting the media has treated Biden worse than Trump. Fear is their power and with prices falling. They keep giving CBO warnings. They are wrong 4/5ths of the time. Have to revise every month.
Gas fell from $3.29 to $2.91. Probably lower now.

(10,085 posts)US corporations pursue more and more profits for their shareholders and big bonuses for top executives to the exclusion of all else. Lax enforcement over the years has meant that some corporations have virtual monopolies and can raise prices at will without worrying about competition. Take insulin. I listened to an interview yesterday in which the speaker said that insulin prices have increased more than 700% in the last few yearsfor a product that is nearly a hundred years old! The Epipen is another example of predatory pricing.
Climate warming has caused some real shortages, especially for food. If people dont wake up to the future ravages of a warming planet, we may find ourselves in permanent inflation for food as it becomes scarce.

(3,825 posts)and gas prices have been dropping over the past week. $2.68 yesterday at Philips 66 Temp Stop out where I live and we are usually 3-5 cents higher because of our city's tax rate. Thank you Joe!

(16,296 posts)What the hell? Who or what is causing this mad swing in prices?
If it spikes, prices often plunge. Opposite as well. People who buy and sell oil and gas looking for a new, post pandemic recession equilibrium. Bit of a roller coaster ride until things smooth out.

(17,989 posts)Biden has little control of short term prices of global commodities other than symbolic acts like tapping strategic reserves. Supply follows prices. If there's short term, windfall profits to be made, supply will naturally increase, eventually lowering prices.
Master_Monstruwacan
(71 posts)and there are no signs of gas prices decreasing here, unfortunately. Holding steady for weeks at $3.56.

(13,059 posts)And his polling numbers will surely uptick as time goes by. But in fairness, presidents don't have much direct control over gas prices. I remember not long ago reading at DU that high gas prices were not the president's fault. Which was very true. But we can't have it both ways. If the higher prices were not his fault then lower prices may not be to his credit either. Yes he did authorize a release from the strategic oil reserve, but that's about all he can do. Gas prices have more to do with world market forces.
