Beijing forced an embarrassing moment at the high-profile virtual summit of global democracies by forcing a consequential ally not to attend, sources say.

Pakistans last-minute decision not to attend President Joe Bidens Summit for Democracy this week despite a months-long campaign for an invitation followed intense pressure from China that it back out, U.S. News has learned, amid fears in Beijing that the administrations attempt to rally world powers undermines some of its most closely held goals.
Chinese officials told their Pakistani counterparts that participating in the two-day virtual summit this week would be detrimental to their increasingly interconnected relations, particularly since Taiwan which Beijing considers a renegade province of the mainland was also invited to participate, a source familiar with Chinas decision-making says on the condition of anonymity.
Though China has prioritized its economic and military partnership with Pakistan in recent years as a tool to effect its broader plans in Asia, Beijing ultimately considered its influence over Islamabad as the most powerful instrument it could wield to try to undermine Bidens summit and demonstrate its outrage over it.

So basically Pakistan likes to be blackmailed by another country that is a dictatorship and Pakistan is okay with China telling them what to do, and that China for the record is basically putting a sect of Muslims in concentration camps and they Pakistan are good with that just so long as they get roads and bridges built by chinese money......

Beijing is very smart, they don't bomb countries into submission and spend trillions of dollars in prolonged warfare like the US does. (Beijing doesn't have the same long term corrupt political/military/industrial complex like the US.)
Instead Beijing pumps huge amounts of money into Africa, other Asian and mideastern countries. And we can now see that money does buy loyalty.

I am sure they make a good impression when stationed overseas.
In recent polling, a good majority of the African people like China and their presence in their country.

(55 posts)The US invites Brazilian fascist president Jair Bolsonaro, Venezuelan coup monger Juan Guaidó, Filipino dictator Rodrigo Duterte, Polish neonazi premier Mateusz Morawiecki to a "Democracy Summit", but China is the one who spoiled it by "forcing" (?) Pakistan to refuse?
Really?
