For those who don't know, he's a liberal radio host who went on the hunger strike on November 8th, and said he's not ending it until some form of a voting rights bill is passed. He is 72 years old. I'm really worried abut him, because I don't see him eating unless something passes and I don't think that's happening anytime son. How much longer can he realistically go?

(3,328 posts)Fuck the media and fuck the GOP in Congress!!
And most likely, the white trash of the GOP Congress will see he is a black man, and say he is a grandstander and never follow through. If he does continue, sadly unless someone intervenes, he will starve to death, because as long as this Senate is 50/50 . (IMO) we will not get this through. I hope I am totally wrong.

(50,310 posts)to urge people to tell him to eat! I don't get hunger strikes at all. He's an intelligent man with media clout and he knows any legislation won't pass until there are enough people to vote for it. The people currently voting against the voting rights bill don't care if Joe Madison starves himself to death and it won't change their minds. All we can do is work to get people elected who want to preserve a fair voting system. He should be doing that, not his ineffective hunger strike.

(11,744 posts)I used to listen to him all the time when I had SIRIUS. I try to catch him on YouTube when I can.
He is a true civil rights leader. He should get WAY more notoriety than he does.
Stay safe EAGLE

(50,310 posts)He's a man with a significant platform who can help boost the numbers in Congress that will get voting rights passed. But he can't do it if he's dead. Do you think people currently opposed to the voting rights bill give a damn whether Joe Madison starves himself to death or not? All he'll get for the effort is a skinny corpse in a coffin and no voting rights passed.

(15,489 posts)However, Madison stresses 60 days without "solid food" so he's likely having milk shakes and liquids protein shakes, so I don't think that qualifies for Guinness.
