Reasons Why Election Might End Up Being Close. Obama Should Be Able To Win In A Landslide.

The MSM, hate radio and the billionaire and foreign money are the likely culprits if this election turns out to be close like the polls indicate. There is reason to believe that the polls are part of the propaganda machine. They are so all over the place it is hard to make sense of things.

The president is running against a huge hate machine. I have never see such a level of racial hatred in 68 years of living. The civil rights movement was bad enough, but it seems much worse now with the media we have today.

I miss the days of Huntley/Brinkley when there was objectivity. The country seems to be all screwed up now. And we have paid a price. We will pay a worse one with someone like Romney. If we do the country deserves it. Too bad it would not effect only Republicans.

The dems had the "solid South" for a century after the Civil War, much to our shame. I suppose there will always be a party with an insufficient amount of shame so as to pander to racists.

But yes, going town to Philadelphia, Mississippi was a big hello to all the racists who now find a home in the republican party.

5. actually, modern racial politics was started by Nixon's "southern strategy"

His strategy in 1968 was to appeal to the racists in the south as a backlash to the Civil Rights Act. Prior to that election, going back to Lincoln freeing the slaves, a Republican couldn't get elected in the south. Nixon flipped that around by getting those voters to transfer against Democrats for passing the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

And it is the only reason the GOP is competitive at all. No wonder the dems didn't want to give up the South. It is a powerful voting block and I do mean block. No pink or light blue states in the South. VA is competitive because of spill over from DC and FL is competitive because of the migration of retired jewish voters (I suppose, what do I know). But can you even imagine Mississippie or Alabama going blue in your life time? If so, you're much youger than I am.

It took real courage for him to do the right thing and push through what was perhaps the most important piece of legislation in my lifetime, inspired by John F Kennedy.
