(59,504 posts)All guilty. I suspect that the reason so few Republicans (seriously - just Cheney, Kinzinger and a few others?) are willing to seriously look for the truth and agree to charge ANYONE involved is that it may have involved a huge part of their Congressional membership and would destroy the party. Consider that viewing the power point was done by many top Republicans. Consider the number who voted against Joe Biden's electors even AFTER the disgraceful attempt at a coup.

(21,621 posts)Woodward and Costa say that Milley was trying to form an insider group to protect the country from the abuse of power and attempted coup that he feared might happen. In the book they say that Milley did not trust Meadows and suspected that Meadows might be sympathetic to whatever Trump and his group were planning.
Turns out that Milley was more right than he realized.

Christie appears to pretend he doesn't know what happened, even though the one lady sat nearby to him and all involved were friends. Christie denied and the others fried. Meadows might be the point to received all the calls and Trump will claim he held everything back. Just a hunch.

I suppose Meadows may take the fall for Trump, to keep him out of jail.

(15,659 posts)Nobody, not even the Rosenbergs, has been convicted of treason since WWII.
Even a charge of sedition is extremely difficult to convict (look up DOJs record on prosecuting sedition).
Obstruction of a Govt. Proceeding, which Carries the same max. Sentence (20 years) as sedition, along with Conspiracy to defraud the government, and possibly Insurrection, appear to be the most serious charges likely to be filed against the insurrectionists and those who incited them.
gab13by13
(21,408 posts)the charge of obstructing a government proceeding came in sentencing of a 1/6 traitor by a Trump appointed judge. Oh, the irony. Now, I ask Merrick Garland to read this Trump appointed judge's opinion and get to charging traitors with it. Enough of these trespassing charges.
I can't wait for the select committee to meet tonight, it damned well better be televised. I hear they are going to do more than just vote to charge Meadows with failure to honor a subpoena.
Someone better cover it live.
Fiendish Thingy
(15,659 posts)Those charged with simple trespass had no evidence showing they had intent to obstruct, but many cooperated (in addition to pleading guilty to trespass charges) by sharing their photos and video that provided evidence against those who did show intent.
If DOJ had charged the trespassers with obstruction and taken them to trial they 1) likely wouldnt have gotten convictions, and 2) wouldnt have gotten the evidence to convict the actual obstructors.
