Disaster capitalism

The 1990's.

8 years of Bill Clinton.

I felt fully alive.

I was working overtime.

Economy was booming.

Future looked bright.

In and out of love the whole damn decade.

No fucking 911.

No FUCKING COVID

This country was too stupid for it to last.

That is all.

Loved the gothic culture and everything about it.
Miss my old hangout Orpheus. And yeah the music of the 90's was incredible.

I am a TRUE elder Goth!

I watched the original "Dark Shadows" in black and white, on an independenr UHF t.v. station in Pittsburgh, because the networks wouldn't air it!

I didn't see that before the Clinton years. And then Bush happened.

global 2007-2009 global financial crash and the resultant explosion in wealth inequality, plus the rise of corporate media consolation. Also the rise of free (not fair) trade agreements helped hollow out (granted along with other factors to be sure) the American industrial base and the further rending apart of the Union movement (Reagan REALLY started the anti-union ball rolling to be sure).

1994 North American Free Trade Agreement
1996 Telecommunications Act (allowed the true rise of corporate media holding the whip hand)
1999 Graham-Leach-Bliley Act (repeal of Glass-Steagall)
2000 Commodity Futures Modernization Act (massive bank de-regulation and the relegalisation of many types of the financial weapons of mass destruction known as derivatives)

Also, it was not as great of a time (compared to white, straight Americans) for LGBTQ and PoC (for the latter, the 1994 Crime Bill for instance) compared to the mid 2010's (but then the election of Trump and the continuing rise and empowerment of the fundie christofascists started really rolling this back). In the 1990's my marriage would be totally illegal (and/or unrecognised) for instance, and misogyny and homophobia was still far more widely accepted.

2000 was the last year of the 1990's, the last year of the 20th century, and the last year of the 2nd Millennium (there as no Year Zero).

President Clinton lifted the moratorium on federal funding for research involving fetal tissue, opening up research into treatments for Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's, diabetes and leukemia.

He also signed legislation requiring a background check before the purchase of a handgun in 1993.

With Clinton and Gore leading the way, 160 nations agreed a strategy was needed to combat global warming on December 12, 1997 in Kyoto, Japan

Anyone who says otherwise is wrong and has an anti-Democratic agenda. Like Michael Moore's "How Democrats Paved the Way to Trump." Total bullshit.
